RUMOR: Marvel's AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. May Have Received A Sixth Season Renewal

There are only six episodes left in season 5 of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and we have yet to receive any official news of the show's fate. Last week, we learned that the veteran Marvel show was "on the bubble" regarding prospects of renewal. However, a new rumor suggests that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renewed and we can expect a season 6 announcement in the near future.

According to MovieTVTechGeeksthree different sources from ABC, Disney, and the show's production team have confirmed that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renewed for a season 6. Furthermore, the site alleges they have heard the show may move from its current Friday night time back to its original Tuesday night slot. Their source at ABC had the following to say about season renewal:

“Disney doesn’t want to lose another Avengers connection on network television. With the upcoming season 5 finale coming in May, expect a season 6 announcement which should give diehard fans some good news.”

With Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 on the horizon, it would make a lot of sense that Marvel and Disney are not ready to say so long to a show that essentially serves as the glue of the MCU with its film connections, especially with everything that is about to occur in the next two years in the films. Not only could some of the fallout of these two Avengers movies be explored on S.H.I.E.L.D., but the show itself would be able to once again reinvent itself and delve into new territory. This sentiment was recently shared by showrunner Jed Whedon who said the movies will open a new playground for them.

While this is just a rumor for now and should be treated as such, if it proves true it will be great news for the show's loyal fanbase. Are you excited about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. potentially being renewed for a sixth season? Let us know in the usual spot below.

@TheUnworthyThor - It doesn't get any better than SHIELD, such an awesome show.

It'd definitely possible (this kind of franchise synergy is a relatively new commodity and having a modestly performing genre series occupying a network slot is a small price to pay to tinker with that formula), but I'm still not holding my breath.

I want to think it's true, but I won't until and unless I see an official announcement.

Lots of rumors for a day from many sources with different projects. Only a handful of them should be real.

Wouldn't surprise me. They need the show on air not just for the work of the people behind it but also because in one way or other it is Marvel's way of still publiciting the MCU and having an audience on TV even if Marvel Studios and Marvel TV don't see eye to eye.

3 more Seasons I am sticking with. But I'd be surprised if they moved it back to Tuesdays. It'd be so crowded: AoS, The Flash, Legion and Black Lightning.

Would it on 9:00 PM (vs Black Lightning) or 10:00 PM like with S4?

@NinnesMBC - 3 more seasons would be awesome! And if they move back to Tuesday, I'd go with the 10 pm slot.

@HeavyMetal4Life - I could also do with the 10 PM slot too. It'd just go up with Legion but I don't know if broadcast network and cable ratings even come into the picture.

@NinnesMBC - Hmm, idk. I think at this point, SHIELD's fanbase will watch it at whatever time its on.

@HeavyMetal4Life - True, it hasn't stopped them and the ratings this year have been very steady. It will come down to the what the network thinks is their best place in the end.

@NinnesMBC - Probably, though this could be another season 5 situation where Marvel/Disney says "do it"...

@NinnesMBC - I have actually enjoyed ending out my week with an episode of AoS each week. It's like, here's my reward for surviving the long week.
