There are only six episodes left in season 5 of Marvel's
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and we have yet to receive any official news of the show's fate. Last week, we learned that the veteran Marvel show was "
on the bubble" regarding prospects of renewal. However, a new rumor suggests that
S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renewed and we can expect a season 6 announcement in the near future.
According to
MovieTVTechGeeks,
three different sources from ABC, Disney, and the show's production team have confirmed that
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renewed for a season 6. Furthermore, the site alleges they have heard the show may move from its current Friday night time back to its original Tuesday night slot. Their source at ABC had the following to say about season renewal:
“Disney doesn’t want to lose another Avengers connection on network television. With the upcoming season 5 finale coming in May, expect a season 6 announcement which should give diehard fans some good news.”
With
Avengers: Infinity War and
Avengers 4 on the horizon, it would make a lot of sense that Marvel and Disney are not ready to say so long to a show that essentially serves as the glue of the MCU with its film connections, especially with everything that is about to occur in the next two years in the films. Not only could some of the fallout of these two Avengers movies be explored on
S.H.I.E.L.D., but the show itself would be able to once again reinvent itself and delve into new territory. This sentiment was recently shared by showrunner Jed Whedon who said the movies will open a new playground for them.
While this is just a rumor for now and should be treated as such, if it proves true it will be great news for the show's loyal fanbase. Are you excited about
