Blackfilm.com report that Ruth Negga has landed a recurring role in Agents Of S.H.I.L.D, although no info is given as to the character she'll be playing. Negga played one of the doctors that helps Brad Pitt towards the end of World War Z, and starred opposite Samuel L. Jackson in The Samaritan. Fans of Dublin-set tv series Love/Hate will also recognize the actress, who had a major role it its first season as Robert Sheehan's character's girlfriend. Negga will next be seen in Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave and John Ridley’s Jimi Hendrix film, All Is By My Side.

nice, liked her in WWZ. I don't know why so many people on this site are hating on the new ABC Marvel series.

You do know that they are going to introduce characters you recognize from the comics in time, right? Just because the pilot doesn't have Luke Cage or another regular Avenger in it's pilot doesn't mean it's going to suck.

The expansion of the universe is what's important, and the possibilities are endless!

After writing my article on why Rick Jones should be in Agents of SHIELD, I started to think about why Whedon would choose 6 characters uninspired by the comics to form the main cast (especially when there are several distinct SHIELD agents to choose from, Quartermain, for example.)

But then I realized that by using characters not from the comics it emphasizes the fact that these are normal people and not superheroes. Even the non-empowered agents like Quartermain or Mockingbird perform superhuman feats.

I would almost prefer that the show focuses on original characters and not characters from the comics. It allows more creative flexibility, but furthermore it really highlights the point that these are just everyday people.

Granted, not everyone is excited that this show focuses on non-empowered average people, but this is clearly a theme that has been portrayed through out the promos. Especially in the tag line, "Not every hero is super."

I hope she's playing Daisy Johnson:

As soon as I saw her, that was the character that came to mind. I said before I wanted to see Quake on the show, so that would be awesome if that's who she is playing.

Maybe Yo-Yo Rodriguez. I was thinking that at some point bringing in the Caterpillars would be really fun. But only extremely seldom.

I just started watching Alias. I hope Shield has some of the same spy feel.

Do you think the cast of AoS will show up in Avengers 2 or 3? I think Whedon confirmed that there will be no Coulson, but what about everyone else? Maybe just a cameo like the Galaga guy or something...

Don't expect to see any characters from the comics on this show. I expect that Marvel is being safe by not wanting to waste any of their characters on this show in case it fails. Sad really, could have made a bigger bang.

This is what happens sometimes. Avengers is a bold and beautiful representation of the comics, captures the main stream audience and makes billions. Instead of seeing that as a sign to be even more adventures with the material, the suits try to hold onto every penny and reign in the creativity and daring.

I'll watch this show but it doesn't look like it's bringing anything different to the table.
