While we are beginning to receive hints and answers towards some of the mysteries surrounding Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., one villainous presence still looms in the darkness- the identity of the Clairvoyant.
What if the Clairvoyant has already appeared in each and every one of the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? And better yet, what if the Clairvoyant will be played by the one and only Stan Lee.
While he has made a brief and comedic appearance in each film as he portrayed characters such as Hugh Hefner (Iron Man), Larry King (Iron Man 2), the pickup truck driver (Thor), a WWII general (Captain America), chess playing skeptic (Avengers), beauty pageant judge (Iron Man 3), metal ward patient (Thor: Dark World), could it possibly be that Stan Lee's character has the ability to be in the right place at the right time surrounded by these super heroes because he has clairvoyant powers? Another cameo appearance which I wanted to mention separately was in The Incredible Hulk. Let us not forget that Stan Lee's character took a sip of the drink contaminated with Bruce Banner's enhanced blood. There has been speculation about the Leader being the Clairvoyant due to Samuel Sterns being affected by the serum, so could it also be possible that a similar effect happened to Stan Lee's character?
Finally, as revealed at the TCA panel last week, the Clairvoyant will be revealed by the end of the first season. Who says this means we will have to wait until the season finale in May. Could we discover the identity as soon as the next episode when it airs on February 4th? As this next episodes plot details : "Coulson and his team will be hot on the trail of the Clairvoyant. The team will be boarding a mystery train that, seems to be headed for certain death." And as many of us are aware, Stan Lee will have a guest role on this same episode. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lee admitted that he will have a "big role" compared to the usual cameo. I think it is possible that this "big role" may turn out to be the Big Bad for the first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. If I am right, all of his cameos throughout the franchise may shed a new light and the next question may be if his cameos in other Marvel films (Xmen, Spiderman, etc.) are ways to make slight connecting threads across multiple universes.
