Marvel Studios first announced plans for an Armor Wars TV series way back in 2020, but the project has since evolved into a movie. According to The Cosmic Circus, the current plan is for it to follow Fantastic Four, meaning we can expect this War Machine-led adventure to arrive in theaters on July 25, 2025.
In regards to the story, the Department of Damage Control will indeed be front and centre. After taking possession of the late Tony Stark's tech in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it's said the government agency will create an "Iron Army" to better protect the world after Secret Invasion.
We've already seen the lengths the D.O.D.C. will go to in order to deal with rogue metahumans, but this army of rogue Iron Men will ultimately fall under the control of Armor Wars' true villains.
The site explains that War Machine will find himself attempting to fend off Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and Iron Man 2 baddie Justin Hammer. Tony joked it would take the latter 20 years to replicate his Iron Man technology and, well, here we are!
It sounds like at least some of these Iron Men will be classic villains from the Iron Man comic books, though it's currently unclear whether reports about Ultron returning are correct. However, Rhodey will have some backup in the form of Riri Williams, a.k.a. Ironheart.
While this project didn't generate a huge amount of excitement when it was first announced, it's now shaping up to be very exciting. Essentially Iron Man 4, it won't feature Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark but sounds like the next best thing.
A lot of dangling plot threads will likely be addressed in the movie, anyway, and this report strongly hints that other supporting characters from Iron Man's corner of the MCU will return.
Are you excited about seeing Armor Wars finally become a reality?
