DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN - 8 New And Existing Marvel Characters We Need To See In The Disney+ Series

Daredevil: Born Again hits Disney+ in 2024, but which characters should join Matt Murdock over the course of those 18 episodes? We have some ideas, and among those are new and existing Marvel characters...

Daredevil: Born Again won't arrive on Disney+ until 2024, but the show was among those being hyped up by Marvel Studios during this past weekend's D23.

Charlie Cox will return as the Man Without Fear, while Vincent D'Onofrio will also be back as The Kingpin. WIth the promise of eighteen episodes, fans are understandably excited to see where the MCU's take on Daredevil will take the hero...and which characters he'll be interacting with.

It seems inevitable that we'll see some familiar faces from his Netflix series, along with various other characters from 'ol Hornhead's comic book adventures. With that in mind, we've compiled a list of new and familiar heroes, villains, and supporting players it would be great to see make their presence felt in Daredevil: Born Again a couple of years from now.

To find out who has made the cut, all you need to do is click on the "Next" button below!

8. White Tiger

32837283

Angela Del Toro was an FBI agent assigned to investigate Matt Murdock after his identity was revealed in the press. She'd later become obsessed with finding out what made the blind lawyer choose to become a hero, and inheriting her uncle's White Tiger Amulet meant she'd soon find out first-hand.

Suiting up as the new White Tiger, it was actually during one of her first adventures with her newfound abilities that Angela grew to understand why Daredevil does what he does.

Before Angela's uncle died, Matt defended him in the courtroom, and Charlie Cox has previously said this is one of his favourite Daredevil stories. Across the course of 18 episodes, Angela could be introduced as an FBI agent investigating The Kingpin who, along the way, becomes a superhero in her own right (setting the stage for her own Disney+ TV series, no doubt).

7. Spider-Man

328372832

Despite Tom Holland's comments during last December's press tour for Spider-Man: No Way Home, the belief is that the actor will return to the MCU as Peter Parker in the not too distant future.

We're not sure whether that could extend to Disney+, especially as Sony Pictures wouldn't necessarily benefit from that financially. A deal of some sort could be made, of course, and we'd love for them to return the favour after Marvel Studios allowed Charlie Cox to appear as Matt Murdock in the wall-crawler's latest big screen adventure.

Simply put, a team-up between these two is a must. Watching Daredevil and Spider-Man interact on screen would be a dream come true for fans, and if Spidey is brought to life solely through VFX and motion-capture, Holland might only need to lend his voice to Daredevil: Born Again

6. Mr. Fear

32837283

It's obvious that Wilson Fisk will be the main villain in Daredevil: Born Again, but that doesn't mean we won't see other bad guys who have targeted Hell's Kitchen over the years.

When it comes to Mr. Fear, there have been a few different versions of the character, though they all utilise a fear gas to take down Daredevil. While he is a little similar to Scarecrow, there are ways this villain could be reinvented for the MCU, and we'd put the twisted Lawrence Cranston behind the mask.

He was in law school with Matt Murdock and hated him ever since his fellow lawyer in the making defeated him in a mock trial in college. It's hard to say exactly how Mr. Fear would factor into this series, but The Kingpin unleashing him on Hell's Kitchen would make sense.

5. Typhoid Mary

32837283

We've already met a version of Typhoid Mary in Iron Fist, though Alice Eve's take on the character had little to nothing in common with her comic book counterpart.

On the page, young telepath Mary had a very traumatic upbringing and ended up working as a prostitute in Hell's Kitchen. She first came into contact with Daredevil when he inadvertently knocked her out of a window when she attacked him in a bid to protect their pimp. It was then that her split personality – Typhoid – took over, and vowed never to be hurt by a man again.

Matt was at one point involved in a relationship with Mary while battling Typhoid as Daredevil, but that's not how we'd like to see things play out in the MCU. More recently, she's been romantically involved with The Kingpin, going so far as to become his wife. Now that could be interesting.

4. Stilt-Man

328372832

Pretty much everyone involved with Daredevil once said that they would like to introduce Stilt-Man in the Netflix series, and while his legs could be seen in Melvin Potter’s workshop, that was as far as that promise ever went.

How do you convincingly portray a man who walks around on legs which make him nearly as tall as a skyscraper? It's a tough sell, but Marvel Studios could quite easily pull that off on Disney+ based on what we've seen from them so far. Charlie Cox has said there's room in Daredevil: Born Again to explore all manner of stories, and making Stilt-Man a minor antagonist could work.

That would be better than making him a large presence in the show, anyway, and there's no reason one of these episodes can't kick off with a fight between the Man Without Fear and one of his sillier antagonists!

3. The Punisher

328372832

This one is a little tricky. On the one hand, there's no way Marvel Studios should be wasting an immensely talented actor like Jon Bernthal when he's clearly ready and willing to return as The Punisher. The character's Netflix series was a little underwhelming, but the potential for Frank Castle in the MCU is huge.

It's just unfortunate that the vigilante's symbol has been co-opted by certain, uh, groups. It also seems somewhat inevitable that The Punisher would have to be watered down somewhat as his mission to murder criminals...well, it doesn't scream Disney, does it?

If there's a way to make this work, though, we'd love to see it happen. There are heroes in the MCU who have killed and we have seen guns used by various characters; with that in mind, Frank could find a home in this world. For us, Daredevil: Born Again is the best possible place to reintroduce him.

2. Elektra

328372832

Simply put, Marvel Television majorly f***ed up Elektra.  There were elements of her story that worked, though making her a bad influence on Matt Murdock just took the assassin's story down some boring and predictable routes.

Her death came far too soon, though The Defenders at least hinted that Elektra managed to survive and break free of The Hand's programming. That gives Marvel Studios a fresh slate in some ways as the character can return to Daredevil's life, with little to no need to do any more than hint at their shared history.

We'd like to see Elektra show up as a love interest and ally to Matt during his war with The Kingpin. She's a character deserving of her own series or movie, so Marvel Studios would be wise to use this as a shot at redemption for the anti-hero. We'd be happy to see Elodie Yung back, but would probably recast the role.

1. Bullseye

328372832

Bullseye is a great villain and, outside of The Kingpin, easily Daredevil’s most famous and formidable foe. He received an extended origin story in the Netflix series' final season, and with this show serving as very much its own thing, we'd now like to skip ahead and have Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter show up as this costumed supervillain.

Making him part of Daredevil: Born Again opens the door to untold possibilities and will give the Man Without Fear a true adversary who can plague him throughout the entire season.

There's no real need to get into that backstory; all we need is for Bullseye to show up on The Kingpin's payroll as someone who wants the Man Without Fear dead. Should Wilson Bethel return? Perhaps, though we wouldn't be against a new actor stepping in to play this villain.

Angela Del Toro would be fun to see, but I don't to see her suit up. It doesn't have to be an Arrowverse show where every named character suits up.

Outside of her and Mr. Fear though, I think seeing all these characters would be pretty cool (and with the Netflix casting in place). I would put Spider-Man on one though, as unrealistic it may be that he shows up.

@bkmeijer1 - It seems like the jury is still out on whether we see the likes of Jessica Jones or Luke. But I think we should see Matt team with other street-level vigilantes and Angela would fit so well. She's new, she's FBI which Daredevil has a history with and he is the one who sort of trained and ushered her into being a vigilante.

@GhostDog - it would be fun to see, but I wouldn't mind them holding that superheroing off for a while. Can always happen in a second season though

@bkmeijer1 - I would bet any amount of money that Marvel is introducing DD now and establishing him in the MCU (starting with NWH) with the intention of him being in the next Spidey movie, especially as I believe Kevin has said that they are taking Spidey street-level with SM4. It makes perfect sense. Get the GA used to Matt/DD in the MCU via various D+ shows so that then you can pair him with Spidey in SM4 with little to no backstory. There's just a common reason that they hook up, like both investigating the same crime syndicate (Silvermane, Hammerhead, etc.) and decide to team up. Along the way they figure out that they know each other. Or not (doesn't really matter). Either way, this practically writes itself, and if we think that Marvel hasn't heard our "fan cries" about SM and DD teaming up then we're fooling ourselves. Remember: Overlord Kevin hears all, he sees all, and he will give us all what he thinks we want. Until, ya know, we don't and then there's an online outrage over it. But on this one I think that we're all pretty united so I totally expect it to happen.

@StSteven - I do wanna see Daredevil show up in the next Spider-Man too.

Spider-Man's main villain can be Scorpion (muscle sent by Kingpin to take care of Spider-Man), but then Daredevil and Spider-Man together take care of Kingpin once and for all. Spider-Man has to face Kingpin atleast once.
StSteven
StSteven - 9/15/2022, 8:29 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Yes yes and yes. Are you listening Marvel? 😊 So to me, being as we know that moving forward (at least or the near future, based on what 'Ol K-Dog has said, we're going to have a more street-level Spidey. And it makes sense. I mean, to me, his whole MCU arc has made sense so far, even though it didn't stick directly to the comics (but then again, it was established early on that the MCU wasn't beholden to the comics anyway). Peter went through a TON a crazy shit on his way to figuring out exactly who he was and he paid a HUGE price for it. Now he's back to basics, because that's all he has. Sad, but that's always been Peter's lot in life.

So it makes perfect sense that we're now going to be moving forward with street-level Spidey, which of course opens up a whole new world of adversaries and situations (and possible team-ups) for him.

Okay with that whole preamble out of the way, I think that DD and the F4 are the most likely places we'll se Spidey next. I mean, Kevin likes to talk about how his goal for the MCU is to make the stories flow organically (which I think is one of the main reasons that they work so well), so OF COURSE it makes sense that now that we have DD and KP in the MCU, the DD show on the way and "Echo" before that, rumors of the Punisher, etc. I think that they are DEFINITELY setting the stage for a street-level Spider-Man 4. An dwho wouldn't want to see that? Spidey and DD going up against KP, Scorpion, maybe some other lackeys before they get to KP like Shocker, Hammerhead, Silvermane, etc. This movie could be completely amazing (pun intended).

bkmeijer1 - 9/16/2022, 3:59 AM
@StSteven - I wouldn't be surprised if they keep that Hammerhead and other Maggia stuff for Freshmen Year, but even then we're getting Spider-Man and Daredevil teaming up.

Also, Spider-Man showing up in Fantastic Four would be pretty sweet too, but I hope that doesn't until atleast their second movie.
StSteven
StSteven - 9/18/2022, 12:39 AM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, it will be interesting how they balance what happens in the "Freshman Year" cartoon and what happens in the (assumed) new trilogy, which will presumably focus on the street level stuff before building inevitably to something bigger.

Regarding the FF appearance, I agree that it should wait until FF2 so that the focus of the first movie is on the team and not Spidey. But... they can (and should) introduce the dynamic between Peter and Johnny in the A:KD and/or A:SW movies so that when they do FF2 afterward it plays on that. Man, they better get those contract negotiations with Tom going because he's got a LOT more than one more appearance in an ensemble movie to go.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 9/18/2022, 5:36 AM
@StSteven - I kinda hope Freshman Year focuses on villains like Beetle or Boomerang we would otherwise never see on the big screen.

Kang Dynasty would definitely be a great place to establish that friendship. Secret Wars though, I hope that has Garfield and Maguire again, and has the symbiote find Tom's Peter.
StSteven
StSteven - 9/19/2022, 7:12 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I agree on all accounts. With "Freshman Year" they can kinda do something similar to what they are doing with "She-Hulk" in the sense of the "villain if the week" thing with lesser-known Spidey villains, while also building a through-put narrative. And as Marvel keep changing their minds about whether or not "Freshman Year" takes place within the current MCU or another universe (I think that it's currently the latter), if they do decide to have it be in the MCU Spidey can initially face those low-level criminals (like you mentioned) and it wouldn't really change anything in the current MCU canon.

On your second point: yes, yes, and uh yes. Well that was short.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 9/20/2022, 4:14 AM
@StSteven - with Norman and some other classic Spider-Man villains appearing, I hope they keep it seperate. I don't want their first MCU appearance to be in an animated show. They deserve the big screen!
StSteven
StSteven - 9/20/2022, 9:15 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, it will be interesting to see hw the intertwine Spidey:FY with the MCU, if they do at all. I thin I've read that it's just another universe separate from the MCU (like "What If?" and that gives the opportunity to pull something from that universe into the MCU if they want, like they did with Captain Carter. Makes sense. That way they can workshop stuff in animation and pull it into live action if there is enough demand (like Captain Carter). I'm sure that they already have at least the next Spidey movie already planned out, if not the whole next trilogy (I'm assuming that you've heard of Feige's wall where he has like the next decade of NCU stuff planned out, at least to a certain degree (think John Nash from "A Beautiful Mind" but probably no yarn... well, maybe yarn). That being said, it seems that they have the leeway to change things (i.e. characters, minor plot points, etc.) as they go, allowing for the possible inclusion of characters that may become fan favorites through their others shows, so it's entirely possible that if they introduce a female Doc Ock in Spidey:FY and she becomes a fan favorite they'll include her in one of the future Spidey films. So we'll see...
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 9/21/2022, 4:17 AM
@StSteven - I liked the female Doc Ock in Into the Spider-Verse already too, so I don't mind seeing that in live-action either.

As for the show, I think it's sort of a What If too. Just like Feige's pin for the Spider-Man movies on his wall. He probably has ideas, but I think it's a ''what if Sony wants to work together again, then we can do this''
StSteven
StSteven - 9/21/2022, 5:09 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Agreed. I think that when it comes to the first trilogy of MCU Spidey movies, Feige's "what if Sony wants to work with us?"plan was essentially a 3 movie originally story, which is something that's been unique to the MCU being as the origin stories usually are like the new character's first movie (i.e. Iron Man1, Thor 1, Dr. Strange 1, etc.), generally what people call the "MCU formula" (which really isn't their formula anymore if you think about it).

So I think that in the case of Spidey, they kind of flipped it and skipped the actual origin story (the radioactive spider bite, etc.) but instead did the same traditional "origin story" for him, but just on a much larger scale, which I think that aa lot of people miss. Like if you were to abstract Spidey's traditional origin story (just like Batman has his traditional origin story, same with Super-Man, DD, etc.), you can basically summarize it as this: he's a smart geek in high school->he has a girl that he likes->he gets bitten by the spider->he gets his powers and figures out how to use them->he acts selfishly with his powers->someone (a mentor) that he cares about dies and it's his fault->he comes out of it all realizing the "great power..." thing-> becomes the "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" that we all know and love.

So I think that in all 3 modern iterations of Spidey they have done that path, it's just that for MCU Spidey I think that Marvel figured that we'd seen that all played out already, so when they decided to do their "origin story" for MCU Spidey it had to be something different but the same, and I think that they definitely accomplished that.

So now that we have his MCU origin story finished, it's on to the street-level Spidey stories that we want, with the occasional high-stakes crossover as well. AND, do we think that it's any coincidence that this next iteration of Spidey is going to be more ground-level (by Kevin's own admission) just as we're introducing the Netflix ground-level characters to the MCU (and thereby creating yet another facet of the MCU which Spidey (probably along with DD will headline))? Don't think so. It's almost like they had some kind of plan or something... 😉.

Anyhow, sorry for the novella, but I was in a meeting with higher-level leadership trying to tell us why everything's great and we shouldn't be updating our resumes right now and blah blah blah so I found a better use of my time.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 9/21/2022, 5:41 PM
@StSteven - that's definitely how I see they approached Spider-Man's origin too, and it makes me wonder what is next. Feige probably has something ready in that hat of his already.

Also, I should update mine. Starting with a recent picture. Thanks for the reminder
StSteven
StSteven - 9/21/2022, 9:55 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Feige's hats operate something like Infinity Stones with each hat possessing a power like "the cure for cancer", "the cure for blindness", "how to make beer that doesn't give you a hangover", etc. Naturally, he's selfishly keeping it to himself, but one day, ONE DAY, when he's least expecting it...

Anyhow, yeah, can't wait to see what they do with "comic accurate, street-level" Spidey now over the presumable next trilogy. I mean they set it up perfectly by the end of NWH. So now it's just a matter of contract negotiations and announcements. Waiting with bated breath...

Mr. Fear (Larry Cranston) is someone I am dying to see. Loved what Brubaker did with that character and how close to home he hit Matt. His fear toxin is distinct in that it removes someone's fear, making them fearless and always high anxiety.

@GhostDog - Also, Scarecrow using fear toxin was a gimmick DC ripped off from Mr. Fear. Scarecrow didn't start using fear toxin until 1967 and Mr. Fear had used it when he first appeared in 1965.

If Spidey and DD interact, it will have to be on the big screen because, Sony. Stilt-Man is too ridiculous for a street level show IMHO. I really don’t care about any on the list except Punisher, Bullseye and Elektra. I think Punisher works best as a side character such as DD Season 2 so I could see him showing up in multiple shows or movies. For me, that leaves Elektra and Bullseye for Born Again. I liked Elodie Yung in the role and wouldn’t object to her return but wouldn’t complain if they went with a Greek actress. I’d be okay with Bethel Wilson returning but a re-cast wouldn’t bother me either. I would loved to see Matt’s circle return as the same cast-Karen, Foggy, Ben, Fr. Landon and Sister Maggie.
