Daredevil: Born Again will feature at least some connections to Netflix's Daredevil, but it's become apparent Marvel Studios isn't going to let itself be beholden to creative decisions made by Marvel Television.
That's evident from The Kingpin's power upgrade in Hawkeye, not to mention the fact Vanessa Fisk has been recast. Then, there's the small subject of Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. They were a significant part of the original series but in the fallout of this new show's creative overhaul, we learned some troubling details about what's in store for them both.
At the time, we learned [SPOILER ALERT] that the plan is for Daredevil: Born Again to kick off with the death of Elden Henson's Foggy. Some claimed Karen would also be caught in the crossfire, while others said she simply doesn't appear.
Either way, fans aren't happy and the hope now is Marvel Studios might take note.
Karen actress Deborah Ann Woll recently spoke with Screen Rant and addressed the character's future on screen, all while largely avoiding answering whether she'll have a role to play in the upcoming Disney+ TV series.
"Look, playing Karen Page was one of the great roles of my career so far. I have such enormous love and respect for her, for myself, for the story that we created together. I think any iteration of Karen that comes back, if she comes back, if it's me, if it's not me, if it's in comic books, if it's in 50 years, whatever it is, I just hope that it continues to honor her. That you're never just the sidekick."
"You might not see the Karen Page story, but she's having a whole TV show on her own that no one filmed. Make sure that, for our characters, who are not superheroes or are not the lead fighter in that way, that we just continue to honor that they have full lives. That's what I really appreciated about my time playing Karen Page, and I would hope that if I got to do it again or if it continues, that people would have the same care for her."
"I'm so proud. I really am. I loved working on that so much, and she's such a cool, cool person. I miss her."
All signs point to Daredevil: Born Again being a fresh start for its title character in the MCU, and Karen brings a lot of baggage with her. It could be that Marvel Studios hopes to introduce a new love interest for Matt, with ADA Kirsten McDuffie a likely contender if what we've been hearing is correct.
However, at a time when many fans are growing tired of the Multiverse Saga and finding plenty to complain about regarding Marvel Studios' big and small screen offerings, bringing Daredevil's Karen back for at least a cameo may be a wise decision.
Daredevil: Born Again isn't expected to arrive on Disney+ until 2025 at the earliest.
