The Punisher being in season two of Daredevil - or anywhere in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - felt like one of those things which we were all hoping would happen, but never actually would. Other studios have tried and failed to get movies starring the character to work with little success (though they all definitely have their fans), and the R-Rated anti hero just doesn't really fit all that well into a world overseen by Disney. Thank goodness then for the Man Without Fear's dark and violent series on Netflix; that's a corner of this world which Frank Castle can comfortably call home!
Jon Bernthal is a superb actor who has impressed in everything from The Walking Dead to The Wolf of Wall Street and Fury. Marvel describes his take on The Punisher as a vigilante who aims to clean up Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results. This will no doubt lead to him butting heads with Daredevil, and some even believe that Castle will end up being the villain of season two. "Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences," said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of TV in a press release when the casting was made. "Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same."
That's quite a promise, and 2016 can't get here soon enough! The question is, do you think Marvel made the right choice by casting Bernthal as The Punisher? Here's your chance to let us know...
