Yeah, I'm thinking he's back.
Okay, wrong ultra-violent vengeance machine, but this is no less exciting than Mr. Wick's imminent return, we're sure you'll agree.
There's been talk of Jon Bernthal potentially reprising the role of The Punisher from the now defunct Netflix shows for quite a while, but the rumors really began to pick up steam following the MCU debuts of Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and The Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio), and the news finally broke that Frank Castle will indeed be making his presence felt in the MCU earlier today.
Now, Bernthal has responded to the announcement by sharing the following image to his Instagram account. There's no caption, but the shot of Castle with guns blazing should tell you all you need to know.
Castle will play a role in the upcoming Disney+ Daredevil: Born Again series, but we don't have any details on how he'll be reintroduced.
Bernthal has previously made it clear that he had no interest in playing a "watered down" version of the Punisher, which may indicate that this show will have a bit more edge to it than the streamer's usual MCU output.
Born Again is planned as an 18-episode tale, with Matt Corman and Chris Ord on board as writers and executive producers. No premiere date has been announced, but the show is expected to bow in the spring of 2024.
Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio will return as Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk after making their MCU debuts with respective appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Hawkeye
