ECHO: Charlie Cox And Vincent D'Onofrio's Roles In The Series May Be Bigger Than We Initially Expected

Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio are now both part of the MCU, but before Daredevil and The Kingpin clash in Daredevil: Born Again, they'll return in Echo...in a much larger capacity than we anticipated!

Yesterday evening, news broke that Jon Bernthal is set to make his MCU debut as The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again. The actor previously played Frank Castle in Daredevil and The Punisher on Netflix, and while we don't know what role he'll play in this story, fans are keeping everything crossed that Bernthal has a bright future working alongside Marvel Studios.

The Man Without Fear's 18-episode TV show - which we've heard could be split into three 6-episode mini-seasons - will pit Matt Murdock against The Kingpin, but we'll be seeing them before then.

Photos from the set of Echo confirmed Vincent D'Onofrio will return as Wilson Fisk in the Hawkeye spin-off, but Charlie Cox's involvement has only been rumoured up until now.

However, buried in The Hollywood Reporter's story about Bernthal's return is the fact, "both Cox and D’Onofrio are key figures in the upcoming Echo, a series said to set the stage for Born Again."

This lines up with what a number of scoopers have been claiming in recent months, and comic book fans will likely be able to piece together how this is going to play out. While Maya Lopez has yet to meet Daredevil in the MCU, she's already gunned down Fisk the same way her comic book counterpart once did.

However, just like the Fisk on the page survived (and was temporarily blinded), so too has D'Onofrio's take on the villain.

Establishing Daredevil and Echo as allies could be key to Born Again and one popular theory is that The Kingpin is somehow able to shed his villainous image and run for New York City's Mayor. If that does indeed happen, then it might lay the groundwork for Spider-Man 4 as well.

Shooting begins on Daredevil: Born Again this month in New York ahead of a planned 2024 premiere on Disney+.

Echo is a waste of time, why not use it on one of the other defenders?

@bobevanz - I have zero hype but hey, I've been surprised before with Loki. Who knows.

Of course they are. Marvel knows there's like zero hype for this series otherwise.

No surprise there. Echo was a supporting character to Daredevil in the comics, and Kingpin should be enough reason for Matt to show up.

Of course, they'll tease him non-stop till this comes out and probably will keep teasing till last episode or 2 just like with She-Hulk whether he shows up or not. They need to try trickery and manipulation tactics to get people watching. People will watch to see him since Echo has zero interest for everyone.

They are doing exactly what the comics have done for the last 15 years; push their unpopular new characters and pad them with appearances from the character people actually want to see.

@Ryguy88 - it's bullshit isn't it.

@marvel72 - with dwindling sales it seems they will ultimately suffer the same fate.

I'd like to see Kingpin sized up a bit more. Fighting Daredevil is one thing but if he's ever going to, potentially, go up against Spider-Man, he needs a lot more physicality.

@rychlec - the only good thing Hawkeye did right was having a more powerful Kingpin. Rumor is they wanted to buff him more but the bigger suit is all they did, in the end.

Of course they will be,Echo isn't interesting enough to carry her own show, I keep forgetting she was in Hawkeye.

@marvel72 - which was a pretty forgettable show in itself, btw.

@Fogs - Yep. Just curious; what was off in it for you ?

@JDL - I found Kate extremely irritating, the story a drag with very low stakes and a specially badly written last episode. Looked like I was watching someone acting over a script written by a 9yo, such conveniend and unreal were the happenings. The very same feeling I had with Boba Fett finale btw.

But hey, I thought She-Hulk was OK for what it was so I can understand perhaps the show just wasn't for me.

Btw thanks for asking and being civil, it's strangely kinda rare nowadays when it involves disagreements. Talking about CBMs aspects always have been my motivation to keep coming back here after all these years.

@Fogs - Interesting. I didn't have those problems with Kate but that's just my taste and I suspect; my expectations. YMMV. I've liked all of the TV shows with two exceptions; "What if"; I can't get into animation at all and Moon Knight where I found the lead.character off-putting.

They are going to need to be. Nobody cares about Echo.

But then again Kingpin already had his ass handed to him by a teenage rookie girl in Hawkeye....so.....

@EskimoJ - valid, and yes I do agree with you, but sometimes I join in on the joke so much that I forget that fact: blown up and shot and still standing shouldn’t even bother them that it was women lol

Maya Lopez is one of the worst Marvel comics characters ever created.
Daredevil is blind, but hasa radar sense.
Echo is deaf, but has photographic reflexes.
Lame.

So, it Kida seems like "Echo" is being used as a proper intro into the DD/Kingpin/Punisher street level side of the MCU, which is fine. Obviously Echo will have her own story arc in the show, but how much people will care about it will be determined by how compelling her story will be outside of the street level stuff, which will mainly come down to the writers, and I don't envy them as that's a pretty daunting task.

Otherwise, I'm pretty cool with what seems like the street level trajectory that the MCU is going with. IF this is the case, it seems like this: "Echo" (proper introduction of DD/KP) -> "DD:BA" (the real deal with the intro of the Punisher and possibly other Netflix characters like JJ) -> "Spidey 4" (Spidey + DD against KP and the other likely cohorts he's amassed, i.e. Silvermane, Hammerhead, etc.) -> ?

Either way, if "Echo" does (among other things) a good intro of at least DD and KP so that we can just jump into "DD:BA" without too much exposition then I'm all for it.
