THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Star Anthony Mackie Says Sam Wilson Will Remain The Falcon In The Series

While it's been widely assumed that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will revolve around Sam Wilson's transformation into Captain America, Anthony Mackie insists that he's keeping his current mantle...

Some big casting additions were made to The Falcon and The Winter Soldier over the weekend, including USAgent! His involvement points to at least some of this Disney+ series revolving around who should wield the shield as Captain America, but Anthony Mackie has now cast some doubt on that.

In the video below, Mackie is asked about becoming the new Captain America and responds by saying, "I am The Falcon, I will always be The Falcon. The moniker will stay the same."

Does that mean we're just going to see The Falcon flying around in his regular costume with the shield in tow? That seems highly unlikely, and the most likely explanation is that while Sam Wilson will be The Falcon when this series starts, he'll finally accept his new role as Captain America by the time it reaches its end, thereby giving him a new role in the MCU.

Check out Mackie's comments below and let us know your thoughts in the comments section!

Thank you. I hope so. I do not like Falcon becoming Captain America. It completely undermines the greatness of the character and mantle of The Falcon.

I’m still hoping Bucky will be cap but I think the series will end with them both realizing neither wants to be Cap and both learning to be a hero in their own way

Makes sense. On the big screen, he can take on the mantle.

Yeah, I mean... I don't want him to be called Captain America. Just keep calling him Falcon, but now he has a shield and he's a leader now.

Plus, Captain Falcon is already taken so...

Pretty sure this’ll be a thematic thing . Sam trying too hard to be like Steve learning to just be himself by the end and that’s the true spirit of Captain America blah blah blah

I love how Josh just completely ignores what he says "I am the falcon, I will always be the falcon. The moniker will stay the same" and then in his article just states that he will probably slowly become Captain America by the end of the show. It's pretty simple. He is the falcon, he is using the shield Captain America gave him to use because it represents him. Bucky isn't using the shield because his past and his past actions mean he can't, he literally killed the creator of the shield, worked for Hydra and the Soviets as an assassin killing the Americans and their allies. It doesn't matter that he was brainwashed, he still did it and it would be weird to the public that the guy who is known as a terrorist is running around dressed like Captain America. Cap chose Sam because that's who he wants to represent him, through his shield, in all future endevours. Cap trusts Sam, more than he trusts Bucky, the shield is a symbol of that trust people.

We have to remember that Steve giving Sam the shield isn't necessarily the same thing as saying he's Captain America.

I wouldn't mind Sam as Captain America, but I think it kills two birds with one stone of sorts. The Steve Rogers legacy lives on through Sam using his shield, but he obviously cannot replace Steve, so he remains the Falcon.

Good! I hate the whole passing on the mantle thing. It is just a lazy way of trying to make a less popular character more relevant. Let both Falcon and Bucky stand on their own two feet.

Falcon should use the shield and wear the costume, but he should still be the Falcon.

You will be falcon cap and you'll like it. You just do what Steve Rogers did... Just slower

the storyline kinda writes itself, and plays right into what people are saying in real life and current events: Cap chooses Falcon to replace him, but like the comics, the government has other plans and feels like the world isn’t ready for a black Captain America so instead, they enlist/create USAgent to be the one to replace him.

Ironically, neither will be called Falcon and Winter Soldier when the series ends. Falcon will be Cap, and Bucky certainly wouldn't go by the name the soviet-era Hydra agents named him.

He'll be Cap by the end of the series. He admitted that he was fitted for the costume. Marvel probably told him to STFU because that was supposed to happen at the end of the show.

He’s been fitted for the costume. It will happen by series end.
