THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Star Sebastian Stan Unsure Where We'll See Bucky Barnes Next

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier led to a lot of big changes in the life of Bucky Barnes, but when and where will we see him again? Here's the latest update on that straight from Sebastian Stan himself...

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier saw Bucky Barnes finally able to move on from his time as a HYDRA assassin, but what comes next for Steve Rogers' best friend? He's fought alongside The Avengers, but the shadow of the Winter Soldier was never far behind. Now, though, he has something of a fresh start and that's exciting on a number of levels.

This week, Sebastian Stan has been doing the rounds to promote Simon Kinberg's new movie The 355. Despite boasting a terrific cast, it's set to bomb this weekend, though the negative reviews probably won't come as a surprise after seeing Dark Phoenix. Needless to say, an actor like Stan deserves better, which makes his MCU return all the more highly anticipated.

Asked by ComicBook.com if he knows when we'll see more Bucky, Stan responded: "I don't, I really don't. I haven't known that for ten plus years, I always am very happy when I get to live another day, hopefully before I get too old. We'll see, anything is possible."

Something tells us the actor wouldn't spill the beans even if he did know, but the most likely possibility is that Bucky will factor into Captain America 4. The character has struck up quite the friendship with Sam Wilson after their adventure on Disney+, and it makes sense to continue that partnership.

Stan delivered a lot of exceptional work in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, so whatever comes next, we're hoping it does both him and Bucky justice.

Honestly I haven’t loved Bucky since WS. I like Sebastian Stan just haven’t loved what they’ve done with him.

Never liked the name Bucky either 😂

@regularmovieguy - He’s been in so many MCU projects and he’s still a complete blank slate wet blanket of a character. Doesn’t help that TFATWS was such a politically confused misfire.

@regularmovieguy - yeah. That's the only one that knew what to do with him. Civil War just had him existing as a plot device, infinity war had his redemption drowned out by the fact it was a massive team up, endgame just left him dead until the final battle (I don't even think we hear Steve mention anything about him), and fatws was more interested in talking about being a black captain america.

@Origame - This is where I think the Avengers films left him at a disadvantage. Unlike with Iron Man and Thor, whose films more or less were self-contained and could pick back up with new stories afterwards, Winter Soldier ended on something of a cliffhanger. But first Age of Ultron and then Infinity War/Endgame kinda disrupted what should have been more of a cleaner progression in the Steve/Bucky/Falcon story. Civil War used Bucky more as a plot device than as an actual character, and he was basically an extra in IW/Endgame.

@tmp3 - Yep. A politically-confused misfire is the best way to describe TFATWS. In a story that was supposedly about the legacy of patriotism/jingoism/American exceptionalism and focused on two veterans (one of them a POW turned unwilling sleeper agent turned fugitive), you would think the show would have room to finally explore Bucky’s even longer history and get into more of what makes him who he is. This character who befriended his orphaned friend and went off to war patriotically and when rescued stuck by his friend’s side and championed him until he himself became a brainwashed assassin for 70 years before being forced back into military service alongside his old friend’s newer friend - the friend who wanted to help his fellow vets move forward from their combat-related trauma and survivor’s guilt (something he and Bucky now share). A show that could have used these two characters to explore just what does it mean to be patriotic given their experiences with the darker side of American history and in the context of a world — and a nation — trying to piece itself back together? That should could have been great. But this show, with its far too surface level treatment of the American government’s racist history and even more muddled and ill-fitting treatment of the IDP topic, clearly wasn’t the show to tackle such a deep and promising story.

This show was a snoozefest for me. Didnt enjoy Hawkeye much either.
WandaVision and Loki were much better.

@marvel72 - yes the one that could fight with Cap or Tony. I did like that he knew Wakanda was in the house, that was a nice touch, and yes I liked his back and forth with Sam, but he wasn’t Wintery at all. The way he took the guys out in the bar was just like walk up and choke. No cool stuff like in the raid on his apartment right before we meet T’Challa, and definitely nothing like on winter soldier.

Cant wait for Armor Wars, hopefully its mostly talking and slow burning drama and pepper potts suits up as Rescue and Agent Carter becomes crimson dynamo and is the main villain

Matchesz - 1/8/2022, 1:47 PM
@Matchesz - then I hope Agent Carter will have a redemption arc and the main villain turns out to be toxic masculinity

@Matchesz - my guess is Sharon will be the main villain as Power Broker of that show

Good. Bucky is a terrible character. A poor man’s Cable mixed with Wolverine.
