The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has been pushed to an unknown date in 2021 in response to COVID, but writer Derek Kolstad, who is perhaps best known for John Wick, has shared an update on the Disney+ series. Unable to reveal too much about the project, he did promise fans that they can look forward to the return of some familiar faces from the MCU's past.
"What I will say is that there are characters from the earliest Marvel movies that are coming back," Kolstad teased. "We’re layering them in and reinventing them in a way that’s gonna shift the storytelling structure. It’s f***ing awesome." Zemo and Batroc aren't exactly the MCU's "earliest" characters, so this could be a sign Phase 1 heroes and villains will have a part to play.
With rumors indicating that The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will explore the effects of the Super Soldier Serum, Abomination could be someone who Sam and Bucky cross paths with.
Talking to Script Apart, Kolstad would later add, "Here’s what I’ll say: growing up, everyone would give someone like Robin shit. But Robin’s pretty badass, and became pretty badass in the comics. [We're] taking secondary characters and putting them in the primary roles, and [as a result] they’re cooler. They’re more interesting. There’s more humanity, more longing, more suffering, and coming to grips with who and what they are."
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has all the makings of something seriously special, but it's probably going to be a while before more is revealed by Marvel Studios Television as shooting is still happening in the Czech Republic.
