Netflix may have decided to part ways with Marvel Television, but Hulu on the other hand appears set to fill this void by expanding their partnership with the company. This includes their recently announced
Ghost Rider series, which will see
Terminator: Dark Fate star Gabriel Luna reprise his fan favorite portrayal of Robbie Reyes from the fourth season of
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
While there was a lot of confusion and misinformation initially when this show was first announced, we do know that the Hulu series will be a non-traditional spin-off from
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that
features "
the same character with a new story that lives unto its own."
It is currently expected that
Ghost Rider will debut on Hulu sometime in late 2020, with recent signs indicating that the series is moving further into development. Last week,
DiscussingFilm announced that the show had added production designer Dave Blass, known for his work on series such as
Justified,
Preacher,
Constantine and the upcoming
The Boys.
This news was emphatically confirmed yesterday by the Rider himself, Gabriel Luna:
Blass teased his involvement in the series last week by posting the cover of a
What If... issue in which Marvel went metal with Ghost Rider, writing "
I vote yes! More metal." Perhaps Blass is indicating what we can expect for the Hulu series: hard rock and heavy metal tunes!
Luna
did respond to the news of Blass joining the series by saying "
let's rock," and he did share back in 2016 a
Spotify playlist for what Robbie Reyes listens to in the Hellcharger, which largely contained rock and metal classics, so Luna is certainly game for spicing up the Rider's adventures with some hard and heavy music.
Marvel/Hulu's GHOST RIDER: Ghost Rider, also known as Robbie Reyes, is a quintessential antihero, consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Reyes lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters, but struggles to control the power he wields.
Ingrid Escajeda will serve as showrunner and executive producer on “Ghost Rider,” with Paul Zbyszewski and Marvel's Jeph Loeb also executive producing.
