HAWKEYE's Second Episode Ends With A Major Cliffhanger, But Is [SPOILER] Coming Next?

The first two episodes of Hawkeye hit Disney+ a little today, and that big cliffhanger ending could have major consequences for not just the rest of this series, but the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Much of Hawkeye's first two episodes were devoted to establishing the dynamic between Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, but the ending of the second instalment was undeniably huge.

With Clint and Kate at the mercy of the Tracksuit Mafia, we learn that the woman in charge of the gang is none other than Maya Lopez/Echo. She looks seriously intense here, and while there's no sign of that familiar handprint marking on her face, it appears Echo is keen to get her hands on Ronin.

In the comic books, Maya's father was a gangster called Willie "Crazy Horse" Lincoln who was murdered by Wilson Fisk. He brought the young girl up as his own, sending her to a school where it was discovered she was a prodigy able to replicate nearly anything she sees (not quite in the same way as Taskmaster; she's instead just an incredibly skilled fighter who happens to be a quick learner). Fooled into believing Daredevil killed her father, Maya set out on a mission for revenge.

You can probably guess where this is going. In the MCU, it seems likely that Maya believes Ronin was responsible for what happened to her dad, with the Kingpin of Crime possibly pulling the strings from afar. If so, that could be a huge development, and points to an exciting four weeks ahead.

Echo will no doubt see the error of her ways by the time her spinoff series rolls around, and we'd be willing to bet that includes Daredevil and Fisk with Hawkeye as a stepping stone to that story.

How do you see things playing out after today's cliffhanger?

@Fanmar16 - wait, why would Hawkeye in anyway think that might have a point? Thanos killed his family.

I hope Vincent D'Onofrio/Kingpin doesn't end up being the "Mephisto" of this series leading up to the finale... People are gonna really break.

I'm gonna really break, lol.

@Kurne - Everyone remembers Mephisto but don't forget that Kang was the "new Mephisto" right up until he wasn't. No way Marvel will introduce a new character in the final episode, it will be a Loki variant, and so on. So we will see.

@Kurne - D'Onofrio hasn't exactly been subtle about being in this show 🤷🏽‍♂️

@Cap1 - The hotel from episode 1 is the same one used as Wilson Fisk's in Daredevil. Well I'm pretty sure it is, I haven't gone back to check, but the exterior shots looks very similar. Could be a coincidence though.

@BlackBeltJones - Odd reference, but your comment made me think of this guy from Happy Gilmore. "Thanos *was* right."

First two episodes were nothing to jump up in joy about, but I kinda liked it. Next episodes has to step it up a notch tho.

This whole Marvel phase has ranged from meh, to just ok. No real WOW moments. I liked the action in Shang Chi. I liked some of the ideas, and animation of What If. I liked the way WandaVision started. Wasn't a really a fan of Loki, Falcon and Winter Soldier, Black Widow, or the Eternals. So far it's been nothing like the excitement I had for the other phases. It could be fatigue, or it could be these projects are lackluster. These are just my opinions. If you liked all of those projects, that's good. Let's just say, I'm REALLY REALLY hoping No Way Home is going to be good.

@DarthOmega - agreed other than Eternals which was a 5/7 for me, the rest were 2 through 4’s, but I’m easily predicting a 6 or 7 from Spidey. Just look at it.

@DarthOmega - Well we're not even halfway through phase 4 yet. Even if NWH disappoints, there are still a dozen of projects left to look forward to.

@heisei24 - But that's not a good sign. Just going by my opinion here, not saying it's a fact. But if the first bunch have only been just ok, and the biggest of the new phase so far being Spidey turns out to be a disappointment, that's not a good start. I'm hoping for the best like I said, bit tbh... The only thing about this new Spidey movie that has ME excited is the chance we will see the Andrew and Tobey. In all honesty, the Holland Spidey films have not been my favorite. I will say this again because some people here (not you) will jump down your throat for an opinion. If you all liked the films that's actually awesome. I'm just underwhelmed.

@TheWalkingCuban - I'm hoping for the best with NWH, but other than seeing the old villains, and the possibility of Tobey and Andrew, I'm like ok, it's fine I guess.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 11/24/2021, 9:53 AM
@DarthOmega - what else have you seen other than the old villains?
GhostDog
GhostDog - 11/24/2021, 9:54 AM
@DarthOmega - I think the first three Phases were really rudimentary and regimented in a way that the beginning of Phase Four so far isn’t. I do think this phase is the beginning of them testing what they have to do to foster longevity and transform so as to not become stale.

I would say so far this is as experimental and different as Marvel has gotten. Excluding Black Widow, which was clearly something owed and didn’t fit in Phase Four at all, Shang Chi and Eternals were exercises in Marvel going places they’ve never gone.

A martial arts flick and a flawed yet ambitious high sci fi cosmic story. I think Shang Chi was excellent and Eternals was a messy swing for the fences. The shows are like marvel phase one to me. They’re figuring out how to adapt and do tv just like how iron man and those early films were trial and error and growing pains.

I think they’ve showed some amazing creativity particularly with WandaVision and Loki. You see where they can grow with tv with some years and maturation under their belt.

@MyCoolYoung - Peter screwing up the spell, Doctor Strange seeming very uncharacteristic, bad jokes, even uglier Spidey suits.
