The MCU machine continues to chug along as Moon Knight reaches its half-way point, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness looms on the horizon. Now, we have new details on the planned Disney+ series for Iron Man legacy character Riri Williams, AKA Ironheart.
Sam Bailey and Angely Barnes have been enlisted as directors, and will helm at least one episode a piece. Bailey received a lot of praise for her role as co-creator of the emmy nominated series Brown Girls, as well as serving as both producer and director on the final season of Dear White People. Barnes has also seen her stock rising quickly with work on episodes of Mythic Quest, Blindspotting, and the upcoming 4th season of Atlanta.
Fans of the MCU will also rejoice to hear that Black Panther helmer Ryan Coogler's production company, Proximity, has been officially connected to the series, with Coogler set as EP. Rumors of his involvement hit the internet a few weeks ago when the filmmaker was mentioned in connection to the project by Ironheart cast member Anthony Ramos (Hamilton, In the Heights).
Ironheart has yet to receive an official release date, but things certainly seem to be amping up for the armored heroine, and Coogler's track record paired with two very talented and in-demand MCU newcomers should certainly help to add an air of legitimacy to the series.
Dominique Thorne will take on the role of the titular character and will make her live action debut later this year in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. She will be joined in her spin-off series by the aforementioned Ramos, Lyric Ross, and Harper Anthony.
