Krysten Ritter Reveals That JESSICA JONES Season 2 And THE DEFENDERS Will Shoot Back To Back

Netflix bosses have previously said that they intend to only release two Marvel TV shows a year, but it looks like they're going to have to up that number, especially based on comments from Krysten Ritter...

Just like Marvel Studios are increasing their yearly releases from 2017 onwards, it seems like Netflix will soon be forced to do the same, especially after the massive success of Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Talking to Digital Spy recently, the star of the latter - Krysten Ritter - revealed that the plan is to shoot the second season of Jessica Jones back to back with highly anticipated crossover, The Defenders

"They'll be back-to-back. I don't know if they'll overlap a little bit," the actress explained. "It's about to be a serious undertaking. I'm starting my physical training - lots of weight training and boxing." As for whether or not we'll see the character return in Luke Cage given her history with Power Man, Ritter added: "Marvel have this grand plan. Luke Cage will come out, then Iron Fist. In terms of scheduling I don't know how it will all come out and I can't even tell you if I've filmed Luke Cage.  But I'm excited for Mike to have his own show. I know the tone of that show is going to be very different. We couldn't expose a lot of Luke's back story because he was getting his own show, so we explored him through Jessica's point of view.  I think that helped give him mystery and tees up his show."

As for what we should expect when Jessica Jones finally returns in her own solo series, Ritter promised that the show will touch on many of the first season's open plot threads. "I'm excited to see what happens next for Jessica, and the end of season one left a lot of doors open and questions unanswered. Kilgrave was her reason for getting up every morning. Saving people gave her purpose. I wonder how emotionally taxed she's going to be now. That opens a lot of doors as to who will come out and play. We all live in the same universe, so there are endless possibilities." With The DefendersDaredevil season three, The Punisher, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones season two, and Luke Cage all in various stages of development, the Netflix corner of the MCU is about to get really crowded.

I am ready to see how they handle Luke Cage first. I also think it's time to have the conversation about mixing the movie verse with the Netflix world...

If Kilgrave really is gone, I'd like season 2 to be before Defenders and have the other heroes cameo. Have an episode where she's doing her PI thing and she has to go the Matt's office to ask questions and he knows who she is. That'd be great.

@KeyWorldWide - I would have loved for Kilgrave to be the main villain for the Defenders. Considering he was a Daredevil villain first.

@TheToecutter - Yea I wish that was the case. Seeing the purple children storyline would've been crazy. I'm pretty sure Kingpin will be the main villain for them, but Kilgrave would've been too good.

Now this was a female led show which didn't fall into Cliches and tropes.
Cannot wait to see more of Jessica Jones.

@SimplyAz - Totally agree, loved how this show was so different to anything else in the MCU or anywhere really. A strong cast with good acting, interesting sub plots and overall storyline, although some episodes dragged a little bit in the middle of the season, I think 10 episodes might work better for these netflix series so they don't have any filler episodes

@SlyASpiE -

I think between her and David Tennant, I could hardly take my eyes off screen, and with him your mind filled in the blanks and it made him an even more Evil Villain.

I liked Jessica Jones more than Daredevil season 1 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@WinterOstritch - They were completely different themes of shows tho, JJ was more psychological horror/thriller where as DD was Action/thriller. It makes me laugh when people say "it's not as good as DD cos there's not as much fighting" well no of cause there wasn't lol
Still I love both shows :P

@SlyASpiE - I'm completely aware that they're different shows with high quality put into them, but they're still the only two Marvel Netflix shows with a darker take on the universe from previous outings of the MCU. I found JJ to have a stronger overall theme that was new, while I found DD season 1 to have a bit of a more traditional season theme (I'd rather the focus of Matt to be on his Catholicism or Lawyering or Blindess or Privlage, as opposed to vigilantism). Despite the stronger characters in DD, Jessica felt the most real, and before DD Season 2, kept me invested for much longer than DD (until AKA 99 friends. That was such a forced Avengers tie in)

@WinterOstritch - Sorry I didn't mean to imply you were one of those people. I was agreeing with you and I get why they're compared as the only 2 things out at the mo and JJ definitely feels more grounded

@SlyASpiE - People are funny. Most folks don't understand the characterization of JJ anyway. The Psychological aspect of the show is what made it so brilliant vs the fact that DD was all about the struggle of the law vs the vigilante
SlyASpiE
SlyASpiE - 5/12/2016, 9:20 AM
@AlphaDean - Indeed imagine someone like Kilgrave actually existing the amount of good he could do, but he chooses to be a very dark sadistic man due to childhood trauma and ego add to that jessica's want to fit in and not be different or considered a hero
WinterOstritch
WinterOstritch - 5/12/2016, 3:22 PM
@SlyASpiE - Haha, no worries man!

@SlyASpiE - Exactly and what's frightening is that many people would be self serving with that kind of power.
