It feels like Marvel Studios is laying the groundwork for a big team-up on Disney+, and Kevin Feige has weighed in on whether that's the plan while teasing the impact these shows will have on the MCU...

While Marvel Studios is as secretive as ever when it comes to their future plans, all the signs appear to be pointing to the Young Avengers assembling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe very soon.

Characters like Speed, Wiccan, Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, America Chavez, and Kid Loki have either been introduced or will eventually show up in the next few years, with the prevailing theory being that this team is set to take centre stage on Disney+.

However, in a recent interview to promote Black Widow, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige made it clear there isn't a divide between what we see in movies and on TV. "Well, maybe," he said of a possible team-up series on the streaming service. "Again, we don't really look at it. We're not looking at it as TV teams or movie teams, it's all one universe now, it's all one big MCU."

"I hope what people have taken away from WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki, and seeing Black Widow soon, is how unique and different all the corners of the MCU can be," the filmmaker continued. "That's what Disney+ has given us, is an ability to tell more deeper, further stories that will have ramifications across features and series."

This is quite the departure from how things were handled when Marvel Television was in charge of these small screen stories, and that's a related topic fans have been talking about recently.

Why? Well, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn has cast further doubt on whether they could be considered canon with the following Tweet:

Really Secret Invasion seems like a perfect place for it
CorndogBurglar

@dracula - It depends. Secret Invasion feels like a good place to either rebuild SHIELD, or to solidify SWORD as the new SHIELD. if anything, it seems lime a good place for Fury to start a new team within SWORD, but not anything like the Young Avengers. More like Fury's Secret Warriors.

@dracula - I'm hoping that ends with Thunderbolts sweeping in to clear out the last Skrulls, which then leads in to its own show or a Dark Reign show

@dracula - Secret Invasion seems more like an event than a possible 6-10 episode series. Hopefully Secret Wars has a long lasting effect throughout the MCU.

Dem fightin words!

Man, Josh sure loves twistin the knife in *THAT* spot, ey? :P

Can't blame him this time tho, Gunn did the heavylifting here, leave it to him to be real and frank, Kev's none-answers wont get us anywhere.

Young Avengers is bound to happen. Patriot, Stature, Hawkeye, Wiccan, Speed, America Chavez, all introduced in Phase Four (except with Cassie, but it’s likely she’ll become Stature in Phase Four). There’s no way that’s not leading to something

@MikeyL - not to spoil anything but it is looking as though the Loki series will be intriguing another kid too.

@Manmarvel - *introducing

Clearly it is too early to trust autofill. ☹

@MikeyL - if they don’t introduce an iron lad, i hope they still make one of the members turn into Kang. Patriot could be a possibility I feel

@Manmarvel - yeah, I was going to mention that but didn’t want to risk spoiling for anyone
WruceBayne
WruceBayne - 7/3/2021, 3:17 PM
@JFerguson - I think the Iron Heart character is going to replace Iron Lad and you still may get your with a descendant of Kang instead of being the same person.

@WruceBayne - “…still may get your **wish**…”

@WruceBayne - Completely forgot we were getting Iron Heart. That's actually a likely possibility if it pans out. Another Avengers villain connected in some way to Iron Man's legacy though, but i don't mind.

... but we got an Agent Carter cameo in End Game. I believe that was the only TV to cinema in the MCU thus far. We also got MCU cameos in AOS. Also, I still believe the Multiverse will allow for the MCU to pluck fan favorite castings out of the Legacy TV and movies, and put them in the fold. I mean what would it hurt to make everything else sub cannon?

At this point I think Young Avengers and Thunderbolts are bound to happen, with Midnight Sons a possibility too I'd argue.

As for how canon Marvel TV is, they should throw it on it being a different universe. MCU is Earth-19999, then Marvel TV and Netflix can be Earth-19998 and Earth-19997 respectively.

Why is James Gunn destroying fanboys’ hopes when marvel hasn’t made any official statements themselves? Kind of odd and not who I would expect an official answer from regarding marvel tv’s place in MCU canon
DaHyro
DaHyro - 7/3/2021, 3:16 AM
@JFerguson - He’s not even right either, we literally know that the Marvel TV guys like Daredevil & Mockingbird’s contracts mentioned they would appear in a movie if needed.

The writers of IW also said they wanted to include the Netflix heroes but didn’t for a handful of reasons (difficult to line up with their schedules/it was taking too much time to introduce them so it was cut from the story).

They also, ya know, literally had a Marvel TV character appear in Endgame.
JFerguson
JFerguson - 7/3/2021, 3:24 AM
@DaHyro - exactly. Gunn has just made this whole thing very frustrating for many fans. There may have not been coordination with him personally, but that’s because there didn’t need to be.

All the pre-Wandavision shows were earth-based street level adventures. No cosmic stuff that Gunn needed to consult on. The AOS show runners also said there was correspondence between marvel studios and the tv productions. Gunn is being an unnecessary punk.
OmegaDaGrodd
OmegaDaGrodd - 7/3/2021, 4:29 AM
@DaHyro - Not to mention, the TV shows were coordinating extremely close to the movies so as to not contradict them......because they're canon

Who the F wants to team up with kidnappy Wanda? Well, I take that back, Loki could find a use for her.
Mugens
Mugens - 7/3/2021, 4:57 AM
Gunn's assertion is kind of ridiculous when you consider the first half of the first season of Agents of Shield was sub-par due to them holding off story-lines due the connection and big reveal in the Cap movie. You can't get more connected than that.
Vigor
Vigor - 7/3/2021, 5:13 AM
@Mugens - ok so AOS connects one way. Doesn't mean its Canon or same universe. It's like an obsessive girl saying she's your girlfriend but you never gave her the official title.
Zer0squad
Zer0squad - 7/3/2021, 5:23 AM
@Vigor - That's incorrect. There obviously had to have been at least minimal coordination between the movie side and tv side for them have any kind of connection at all. Which is precisely the opposite of what Gunn is saying.
Deklipz
Deklipz - 7/3/2021, 5:48 AM
@Zer0squad - yeah minimal coordination as in…

Movie side: “Don’t spoil this or your crappy show will be cancelled.”

TV side: “ok… :(“
*(throws scripts in the trash.)
Zer0squad
Zer0squad - 7/3/2021, 5:53 AM
@Deklipz - Weird how that crappy tv show went on for 6.5 more seasons after being hamstrung for the first half of season 1 and even then never actually got cancelled though...
colonel179
colonel179 - 7/3/2021, 7:48 AM
@Mugens - Oh come on people!! Feige confirmed the Netflix shows were not CANON! Maybe they were, but not anymore! Just like what happened to Star Wars.

Of course they will use the characters some day, but they will not be the SAME character. Even if they use the same actor, it would be a new version of the character!

I hate when people can't see facts because they are blind by their own imagination!
GreedoSarducci
GreedoSarducci - 7/3/2021, 4:32 PM
@Mugens - the helicarrier in Age Of Ultron came directly from AOS as well. Fury even mentions it (without naming names).
mdwilliamson24
mdwilliamson24 - 7/3/2021, 7:24 PM
@GreedoSarducci - In regard to AOS and AC being connected to the MCU.
Samuel L shows up as Nick Fury. Jaime Alexander shows up as Sif. Dominic Cooper shows up in Agent Carter as young Howard Stark. Haley Atwell is Peggy Carter and mentions Steve many times. Neal McDonough shows up as Dum Dum.
James D'Arcy as Jarvis going the other way to appear in Endgame.
Coulson mentioning the incident in New York and the fact he was supposed to have been killed there many times. The story lead in to the Winter Soldier. The helicarrier deal you mentioned above. And probably several more links and references I'm missing. I don't see how people don't believe they are connected in the same universe.

I understand Fiege coming out and saying they really are not canon and that is more of a behind the scenes deal with how the movie and television departments were not really side by side back then.
The Netflix shows were a lot more vague on the Cinematic references and ties and I can see how those are much easier to dismiss as a separate universe.
