LOKI Head Writer Reveals Penultimate Episode Very Nearly Introduced Us To The "Loki Variance Authority"

Loki Head Writer Michael Waldron has revealed that the show's fifth episode very nearly featured a very different battle with Alioth and the introduction of a TVA alternative: the Loki Variance Authority!

Loki is a series that took us to a lot of crazy places, with the fifth episode, in particular, really defying expectations. The God of Mischief found himself in The Void where he met multiple Variants of himself, including President Loki and Alligator Loki, but things could have been even nuttier.

During a recent interview with Cinema Blend, Loki Head Writer Michael Waldron revealed that in earlier drafts of this penultimate chapter, there were discussions about introducing the LVA.

That's the Loki Variance Authority!

"Tom Kaufman wrote Episode 5 of the show. Tom's a Rick and Morty writer; he was there from the first season Rick and Morty. He's one of my great friends, and one of the funniest people alive," Waldron said. "And his first draft of that script had so much amazing stuff. I think there was, at one point, a Loki Variance Authority, like an LVA with all the different Lokis who were down there."

That would have been fun, but another idea thrown around was that all the different Loki Variants would come together to battle Alioth...not because they're heroes, but due to pure narcissism.

"He'd written a great thing, like an 'I am Spartacus' sort of thing, where Loki goes to talk to Alioth. It's like Loki is going to do the heroic thing, and then all of the other Loki starts standing up trying to do the same thing, and it's just narcissists," the prolific writer revealed. "Everybody's trying to be the hero, and it just ends up being a disaster. His first draft is one for the ages."

With a second season of Loki already confirmed, it's possible ideas like these could be revisited. However, it's hard to complain too much about what we did end up seeing in this episode because Classic Loki's sacrifice might just be one of the best moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date.

Don't think it would've benefitted the story of the Loki we were following throughout the show. By E5 we already found out he's a narcissist, so no point just to show us that it's a trait of every Loki.

I could imagine Sylvie hidden in a universe inhabited by Lokis. After the end of the first season, she will hide there. So, Loki must find her.

@Repian - Also, President Loki could return in that episode.

I'm sure that concept would have been funny on screen, and probably loads of fun for Tom, but the series as it played turned out quite well, so can't say I missed the opportunity to see it.

This sounds hilarious and enjoyable. Doesnt seem to do anything for the story though.
