Giancarlo Esposito has quickly become one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood, which is no great shock after his work in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. While the actor has been largely wasted in The Boys, the hope is that he will find a major comic book role in the Marvel or DC Universes (perhaps both) in the not-too-distant future.
However, while we know Esposito has previously met with Marvel Studios, the actor revealed this weekend that he actually turned down a role in Loki!
While he didn't elaborate on which character he was offered the chance to play, the actor reportedly told those in attendance (according to a Twitter user who was on hand) that he passed on the TV role because he was holding out for a movie character. That likely takes He Who Remains/Kang the Conqueror off the table, so who's left?
Well, Mobius is a strong possibility, as is a Loki Variant. For example, we could quite easily picture Esposito playing the Classic Loki eventually brought to life by Richard E. Grant, though it's not outside the realm of possibility that the actor was eyed for a character who didn't make it into the series!
Doctor Doom and Professor X are among those who Esposito has expressed an interest in playing, of course, and he'd later go on to share what he'd like to bring to the MCU's Charles Xavier.
"I'd play that character with force, grace, and a calm," he told fans. "Someone who controls the chaos, but someone who also has the ability to uplift and inspire." It's fair to say Esposito has a perfect grasp on what's needed to bring the leader of the X-Men to life on screen, but whether he'll be given that opportunity remains to be seen.
Who do you think the Breaking Bad star could play in the MCU?
