Tom Hiddleston Finally Comments On The LOKI Season 2 Finale And Possibly Closing The Chapter On The MCU

With the SAG-AFTRA strike officially over, Hollywood's biggest stars were finally able to promote and market their latest projects. It didn't take long for Tom Hiddleston to show up on The Tonight Show to discuss the thrilling finale of Loki Season 2.

There's been plenty of discussion surrounding the Season 2 finale, but we finally got to hear from the star of the series himself. Without spoiling the show or ending itself, Hiddleston explained how it not only concludes the series but also 14 years of his life, possibly even wrapping up the character's journey in the MCU.

"It's the conclusion of season two. It's also the conclusion to seasons one and two. It's also the conclusion to six films and 12 episodes and 14 years of my life. I was 29 when I was cast, I'm 42 now. It's been a journey," Hiddleston explained.

Addressing the events of the final episode," Hiddleston detailed how it harkened back to the early version of his character first seen in the first Avengers movie.

"I do think in the finale there are echoes and resonances of every version of Loki that I've played. And I think, without spoiling, the episode is called 'Glorious Purpose.' If you remember in the first Avengers film, Loki comes down to Earth. Look straight at Sam Jackson as Nick Fury and I say, 'I'm Loki of Asgard. I'm burdened with glorious purpose.' And he's arrogant and he's hubristic and he's entitled and is puffed up and he's going to take over the world."

After pointing out that Loki's actual journey is "not so glorious," he dives into the premise of the Loki series and what made the project so exciting for him.

"At the beginning of season one, Mobius, played by Owen Wilson, the best ever, he basically shows Loki that the glorious purpose was a fallacy and he gets kind of a second chance. And that I think was the most exciting thing about this show was seeing Loki try to rethink and rediscover that sense of purpose, which we can all relate to. I think we all wonder if we're in charge of our own story, can a leopard change its spots? Do we have any free will? And in exercising your free will you make choices in your own life, either you get a black coffee or a latte or a cappuccino. That's a choice. I mean, it's a small choice. Every choice you make adds up to the picture of your life and do those choices inform your purpose and I think all of us as people want happy lives, but that we also want lives with a purpose. And that's really what the show is talking about."

The conversation then proceeded to discussions about fan theories and conspiracies regarding the Season 2 finale and future MCU projects, including its possible tie-ins to the recently released movie The Marvels as well as the upcoming Deadpool 3.

Interestingly, many of the theories do involve Loki possibly returning in future MCU projects, speculation that has not yet been confirmed by Marvel. The Season 2 finale seemingly put a nice little bow on Loki's arc and there was a sense of finality to the character's story. The Loki series writer has already confirmed that there are no plans for a third season, but that doesn't rule out Hiddleston returning for a future movie.

As Jimmy Fallon's speculative questions allude, there are now infinite directions Marvel can go with the character if they so choose.

He'll be back for Secret Wars.
Great actor, great journey.
Hugh Jackman & Patrick Steward are the goats however.

@LSHF - I kinda wish they released the Official Timeline book after the season 2 finale. Feels like it's pretty essential to the timeline.

Anyway, I'm kinda bummed that they go into explaning Yggrdasil, but there not being one mention of the Norns.

This season could have been streamlined to may be 2-3 episode. That Casey character had nothing to do this whole season, same with Sylvie.
SonOfAGif
SonOfAGif - 11/11/2023, 9:07 AM
@MartianManHuntr - Sylvie was integral to Loki's growth and acceptance in Season 2. I felt like Season 2 was the 5 stages of grief. Denial was B-15. Anger was Sylvie. Bargaining was Mobius. Depression was Casey. And Acceptance was OB. Each one were pivotal for Loki to experience and make peace with. Sylvie's anger and rage is what caused the events to unfold and in order for life to thrive, Loki would have had to kill her or destroy the loom. Loki ultimately reached Acceptance and became the God of Stories

Ryos - 11/11/2023, 11:08 AM
@MartianManHuntr - between the six episodes there was about 40 mins of screen time of that damn bridge to the loom
MartianManHuntr
MartianManHuntr - 11/11/2023, 3:55 PM
@SonOfAGif - Sorry but I don't see it. You can label them any emotions except for Sylvie. We both agree she is anger, but B-15 could be depression because she was a doctor and she was pruning in TVA, O.B. was happy, mobius was denial because he thought TVA was his life and victor timely was Stockholm syndrome. I don't know, we can label them anything this way.

I still think if we remove last episode, which I'll say was good, everything else was nothing burger.

I think Loki's ending was really well done. He's a Norn now: the Jotun (one instead of the three in Norse mythology) responsible for nourishing the tree and weaving destinies.

But yeah, he'll return. Hiddleston has had a great tenure since 2011, but like any other actor that portrayed a Marvel character in the 2000s, he'll probably get a call for Secret Wars.

Yup "glorious" story telling.

The supposedly very clever and powerful villain, who actually thought Loki how to do all that stuff, suddenly disappears in thin air while Loki went on to do all those shenanigans while breaking their own rules on time travel and eventually VERY slow walking to the throne.

Typical DUMB IDIOT Marvel villain let all that happened just because.... 🥱😴

@AllsGood - 1st so what if it had a 40% drop from last season. And because of that it's your least favorite show. Sad you have to judge a show by how much the viewership dropped. A 40% drop don't mean people don't like the show. I know for a fact that there is at least roughly 20% maybe near 30% of people who like a tv show that drops a new episode each week that they won't watch it until the final episode comes out so they can stream the entire season in one day. Especially a show like Loki that has only 6 episodes but there is going to be a large jump in viewership numbers because now the people who hadn't watched it yet whose viewership is part of that 40% drop are now able to stream every episode in a single day. That is what I do with all the shows I like to watch. I didn't watch an episode of Loki season 2 until yesterday when I binged the entire season LAST night.i ALSO like the show power and it's spin off shows with the main character in the original power show with his son getting his own show called book 2 and there is another spin off of the original power show called force about ghost partner and Best friend Tommy from the power show about him starting over in a new city that has 10 episodes but I haven't seen a single episode from this new season which now it aired the last episode of my new season I am going to start watching every episode later tonight. It has nothing to do with people not tuning in to watch the new season of Loki 40% drop off in viewership from last year don't mean that those 40% don't like the new season or the show itself. Because I can guarantee you that at least 20% of that 40% which you can include myself in the 20% that just didn't watch a episode of Loki season 2 until the last episode aired and Just waited so we can binge watch the entirety of Loki season 2 in a single Day. But because of how there was a 40% drop in viewership numbers you don't like the new season or the show itself if there is a show that peaks my interests I don't check out the viewership numbers or anything to help me decide if I want to watch it or not or if I think I would like it or not. Depending on what platform it's on I will wait for the last episode to air before I start watching it and if by the 3rd episode and I'm not enjoying it then I will watch something else but if I do enjoy it I will be happy and continue to watch it until the last episode airs. Because MANY of the new shows that I've watched and really enjoyed all had slow starts and didn't start getting really good until the 3rd episode. Take the Chris Pratt show The terminal list that is on Amazon. Didn't start getting Great until the 3rd episode and after I was glued to the TV for the rest of the season because it was probably one of the best TV shows I have ever watched in my life but critics had some harsh things to say because when they review a new season of a tv show they are only writing about the First 2 or 3 episodes they were given to watch that they don't watch the entirety of the shows 1st or new season and most shows start off to a slow start and don't start getting really good until the 3rd or 4th episode and the critics only watched the first 2 or 3 episodes before the show starts getting really good because those same critics who gives a poor rating of a new show or new season wait until the last episode of the first season or new season and they write a new article with glowing reviews admit they misjudged the show because of how they only got to watch the 1st 2 or 3 episodes when they wrote the initial review and viewership numbers weren't through the roof but that is fine because it didn't keep me from watching it and didn't base my decision about liking it or not based on what the critics said or having not so great viewership numbers which there was a huge drop after the 1st episode because of how it started off slow and didn't start getting really good until the 3rd episode and the people who stopped watching it didn't even give it a chance but the people who caused the viewership numbers to drop after the 1st episode went back to watch it where they left off because by then the show was all anyone who watched and talked about. For example the original power show I started watching it when season 3 has aired and I honestly couldn't get in to watching it and didn't care about it and stopped watching it after 4 episodes but guess what I did give IT a 2nd chance and this time I loved it and thought it was an amazing show. But because of how Loki season 2 viewership numbers dropped 40% from last season it's one of your least favorite shows.did you even watch a single episode from this new season yet or won't watch it because it had a 40% drop in viewership from last season. Its pathetic that you would let viewership numbers dictate what shows you watch or like or dislike a drop in viewership numbers don't mean the show is bad or people don't like it.people get busy in life and can't dedicate THEIR time when a new season starts all of the time and because of the shows are available 24 hours in day 365 days a year they can watch it anytime after the season starts at their leisure. Take a show like suits the last season ended a few years ago and now Since the finale of the show aired a few years later for the last 6 months of this year the show suits has been the number one show watched by more people then when the show aired and is very popular with everyone and now they are rebooting it and creating a new show with returning characters and new ones set in a different city.they Never planned on creating This new show when the original ended a few years ago But because of how it's been the number one show on Netflix the last 6 months with higher levels of viewership numbers they are going to create this new show. So what Loki season 2 had a 40% drop in viewership numbers from last season.tbat don't mean people don't like the show itself or that the show is not good those 4o% will watch the entirety of the 2nd season now that the entire season is available to watch.you shouldn't care about the viewership numbers for any movie or TV shows that are newly released or listen to the critics reviews of any new or returning TV shows or movies because Just because a critic doesn't enjoy the show or movie that they are only basing their reviews from the 2 or 3 episodes they got to watch and most important the critic might not have any interest in the genre of movies and TV shows if you have a person who don't watch the superhero movies from marvel or like science fiction movies like star wars and only watched classic movies or musicals their reviews are not going to be good like if Martin Scorsese was tasked with writing a review for any MCU movies he is not going to write a good review because it's well documented that he don't care about the movies from the MCU the movie ace Ventura pet detective got some of the worst reviews for a movie by critics and when that movie came out there was no such thing as viewership numbers and all we had was a review from a critic but even though the critics hated the movie it was still a commercial success and made a good amount of money that they made a 2nd one. Because of how everyone who watched it loved it and today it is a classic timeless comedy that is as loved by everyone today as much and more then when it first came out. Because it is a fun and wonderful movie and people don't listen to what critics said about the movie because they watched it because they liked what they saw in the trailers and were big fans of Jim Carrey
You must not be a fan of the MCU or Loki because it was a great season that a 40% drop in viewership numbers from last year don't mean people are don't like it or don't care about it. And like myself just waited for the last episode to air before watching it. You call it your least favorite show because there was a 40% drop in viewership numbers sorry but that's pathetic
