Mike Colter On LUKE CAGE Discovering The Limits Of His Powers In JESSICA JONES

SPOILER WARNING - Actor Mike Colter discusses his role as Luke Cage in AKA Jessica Jones with reporters that have seen the first two episodes. "He’s discovering this power as you see him, he doesn’t know what he can do." Apparently there's a very specific test.

When Luke Cage appears in Marvel's Jessica Jones, he'll already have his powers.  However, they'll be fairly new to him and he won't know the upper limits of his capabilities.   Apparently in episode 2 of Jessica Jones, Cage finds himself in a precarious position on a table saw but of course walks away unscathed thanks to his unbreakable skin.

Speaking to Collider, Mike Colter stated, "You guys have seen the first two [episodes]. I think there are more than one moment for me, but since you’ve seen the first two, I think for me it’s like, we talk about realism and what we can do and less is more and stuff like that and being grounded. For me it was the table saw moment for Cage at the end of [episode] two, this moment where you’re like, you show your power but in a subtle way in a sense but it’s so effective and then it’s just a moment, it’s like this thing where you’re like –Because what’s great about what they’re doing is like we’re discovering, especially for Cage, he’s discovering this power as you see him, he doesn’t know what he can do. And so he has the power, he doesn’t know what he can do, so he knows some things, he doesn’t know everything. So you’ll find that out as it goes, that’s what’s cool, that moment of like, “I know I can do this and this is what I’m gonna show you right now that’ll let you know…” you know. But it’s a movie moment, it’s one of those things where you’re like, “I’m unbreakable.” This is that moment and then what does that mean? All that stuff. So that was that moment where we shot that, I remember we were rushing to get it shot but it turned out a cool moment."

Based on Colter's comments it sounds as if Colter is somehow strapped on a table saw, seemingly about to be split in two and then the scene shifts and when we return there's a mangled table saw and Cage is long gone.  Subtle, but definitely an indicator of what Luke Cage is all about.

How did you go from:

"For me it was the table saw moment for Cage at the end of [episode] two..."

To:

"...Colter is somehow strapped on a table saw, seemingly about to be split in two and then the scene shifts and when we return there's a mangled table saw and Cage is long gone."

I know you said "Based on Coulter's comments..." but I've read it several times now and I can't find anywhere where he says all that lol.

@Greengo I'm just making a guess. Could be what Pasto said too. We won't know until we see the episodes.

@Leostrator Some media outlets at NYCC got to see the first two episodes.

Nicolas Cage should cameo in this show. After all, Luke Cage is the character he took his screen name from!

Why would anyone who hates the MCU care or not like Luke Cage? Luke was the first black superhero introduced in the 70s who actually had some real power after his prison experiment was described to have steel like skin and the power of a runaway rhino. A 300 pound frame proved to be a disadvantage when he hunted Spidey for JJJ. I am really looking forward to finally see him in action. Another example of the diversity of Marvel personality's make marvel heroes so compelling. And Jessica...forget about it. Can't wait.

Luke Cage is a badass plain and simple. Having him on Netflix will allow them to really explore his life and background. They need to leak those 2 episodes.
