One week from today, Moon Knight finally arrives on Disney+. With glowing early reactions from critics, excitement is building, though many fans are already wondering what sort of future Oscar Isaac's Marc Spector might have in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show has been described as a "limited series," and that can be interpreted in a number of ways.
The plan may be for the unhinged hero to star in a movie or join another franchise (similar to how the Scarlet Witch will now appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness following WandaVision), but we can't discount the possibility of his story being a one-off.
For Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab, the hope is that the vigilant heads to the big screen. "I dream and wish for a film," he told SFX recently. "But with Marvel, the way they play it, it’s not like you graduate into a film. You can go into a film and come to a TV show and go back."
"It’s like a crazy world. Even with the successful shows, like WandaVision, they’re not doing season two. She jumped into a film, maybe she’s going to come back or not. I don’t know. And that’s exciting," the filmmaker continued. "But I can tell you for a fact, I can see him in the next 10 years, not just the next film. He’s a very interesting character."
"He’s probably the most interesting character for any actor to play. Oscar is doing a great job. People already like him even from the trailer. I think the show’s going to resonate with people, so I see him staying for a long time."
Whether that ends up being the case remains to be seen, but it sounds like the character has a bright future in the MCU. His mere presence opens the door to a new supernatural era of storytelling, and we know from recent tales that Moon Knight has an important role to play among The Avengers. Hopefully, the Disney+ series will make future plans clear by the end of the sixth episode.
Moon Knight premieres on Disney+ on March 30.
