In the closing moments of today's Moon Knight finale, we were finally introduced to Jake Lockley. Khonshu may have freed Marc and Steven, but Jake will continue to do the Moon God's bidding...and happily so. He clearly has a penchant for violence, and no qualms about brutally killing those who get in his way. The question is, how many times have we actually seen him in the series?

"We knew right from the beginning that fans were going to be on the lookout for references and clues that Jake Lockley is going to appear in the show," Head Writer Jeremy Slater tells Marvel.com. "[We focused on] everyone else who's totally unfamiliar with the character and the dynamic. We have to make sure that the mystery works as satisfying for the newcomers to the Moon Knight story."

"It was really just a balancing act that definitely involved my team of writers, but also involved the directors, the executives, and ultimately, all the way up to Kevin Feige, in terms of how many breadcrumbs are we dropping?" Slater added, explaining how they handled Jake's introduction. "Is this a satisfying reveal? Are we telegraphing it too much? Or are we not telegraphing enough?"

The site goes on to explain that in the first episode, the shot of split mirrors when Steven Grant wakes up after the truck chase shows a third reflection. In the second instalment, when Marc is talking to himself in the pyramid at the end of the episode, it's actually a broken three-sided pyramid. Apparently, that represents Jake being Marc's rage. Then, in the third, we see Marc and Steven both black out for the first time, and the fourth obviously features Jake trying to escape that sarcophagus.

Asked to detail his take on this third personality, Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac explained why he wanted to put a new spin on Jake Lockley. "I saw an opportunity to bring something of myself to it that's not just trying to pay service to some idea that was in the comics," he explains. "The thought of, ‘He's just going to have the one line that he speaks, it should be in Spanish.’"

"There's something that's ominous about him, the kind of control that he has versus, you know, both Marc and Steven that have been so off foot," the actor continues, stopping short of teasing Jake's future. "It just feels like it was just a really fun chance to let the instinct of, after having played these two guys, imagining what else could be in there and the excitement of shooting that scene."

Something tells us we'll see more of Jake Lockley before too long; whether he has his own suit remains to be seen, but we'd bet on him donning something more akin to what the Batman-like vigilante version of Moon Knight wears in the comic books. Marvel Studios has yet to announce season 2 plans, so fingers cross Isaac decides to make his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon.
