SECRET INVASION Actor Samuel L. Jackson Indicates That He'd Be Hesitant To Star In A DC Comics Movie

Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most prolific actors working today, but when asked if he'd ever consider jumping ship from Marvel Studios to the DCEU, the Secret Invasion star showed little interest...

Samuel L. Jackson made his debut as Nick Fury in the post-credits scene of the first Iron Man movie back in 2008, and has been a mainstay of the MCU ever since. In between his appearances as the tough-as-nails former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director, Jackson has continued to star in a wide variety of projects, but would he ever consider making the jump to the DCEU?

The Secret Invasion star was asked that very question while chatting to Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and while he initially seemed to entertain the idea (“sure, why not?”), there was a "but."

“But I dunno that I’m going to read a DC script that’s gonna make me go, ‘yeah, this is dope!’ cause you expect things to happen, because… look, I’m a comic book fan. I’ve been reading comic books forever, [but] I dunno what the thing is with [DC] cinematically.”

Jackson admitted that he actually preferred DC to Marvel when he was growing up, but his response indicates that he may not be the biggest fan of Warner Bros.' big-screen output! Horowitz interjected to suggest that this could be because Marvel Studios has a better grasp of the shared "cinematic universe" formula, to which Jackson offered: “Sometimes. Most of the time... most of the time.”

Several actors have dipped their toe in both worlds at this stage, of course, but it might be a little strange to see Jackson show up in a DC movie after being such an integral part of the MCU for so many years.

What do you guys think? If Jackson could be convinced by a great script, which DC character do you think he should play?

That's pretty fair tbh.

Other than Batman, it's kind of all over the place. Some solid movies but I think SLJ really enjoys the connectivity with Marvel.

@Menks123 - Shazam and The Suicide Squad were pretty great also, and I think most people really enjoyed the first two acts of the first WW.

I don't blame him. After the Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel, DC films have been and continue to be a train wreck.

@Forthas - Really?
Shazam
Joker
Wonder Woman (excluding '84)
The Batman
The Suicide Squad
Peacemaker, if we're including shows even.
These are all very quality experiences. And yet, you still try to act like and portray yourself as someone who's not a Marvel troll. Just stop dude.

@JesseCuster - Yeah, and I’m not the biggest fan of Joker, but all these are definitely their best and better than Man Of Steel too.

@JesseCuster -

Yeah but you have to look at the whole picture.

MOS- which I liked but most people didn't

BVS- trash

JL- awful

Snydercut- still poop

Birds of prey- grabage

SS- awful

Ww84- big yikes

They are 60 40 right now💁

Be real with yourself.

Any creative would be cautious with those stats.

@JesseCuster -

Shazam (Did not do that well at the box office)
Joker (Bares little resemblance to the comics)
Wonder Woman (Ruined by WW 1984)
The Batman (Good but not a game changer)
The Suicide Squad (Box office bomb)
Peacemaker, if we're including shows even. (not a film)

These are all very quality experiences. And yet, you still try to act like and portray yourself as someone who's not a Marvel troll. Just stop dude. (If I am a Marvel Troll why would I praise Man of Steel?)

@AmazingFILMporg - I didn't exonerate any of those films at all. I said more recently they've had more hits but the misses are still plentiful. Don't mistake my comment for saying that DC still needs to get it's footing right.

@Forthas -

- Shazam (did decently well at the box office for a mostly unknown character made on a modest budget and was widely liked by audiences and critics)
- Joker (Speaking as if Heath Ledger or Nicholson resembled anything from the comics, also is still the only R-rated film to hit a billion dollars, and was the most nominated film at that year's Oscars)
- Wonder Woman (this is the goofiest argument yet. Since when does a sequel ruin the quality of the first film? Maybe the franchise afterwards, but the first film always stands on it's own)
- The Batman (Not sure if even I myself would call it a game changer in the way The Dark Knight was, but in today's time where cbms feel REALLY factory-like in their making, The Batman was a welcome change of pace all things considered)
- The Suicide Squad (came out during a really bad COVID spike, not to mention Suicide Squad's reputation wasn't well regarded because of the first)
- Peacemaker (That's why I said IF. Context clues matter, am I right? Even then, it's still a good thing that came out of DC)

And just because you pick a token film like MOS, which is arguably worse than any of these previously mentioned films, doesn't mean you don't hold a clear and evident bias. Again, just stop.

@GirshwinDavies - I loved Man of Steel. It is Zack Snyders best film. I thought it was a very efficient film, because it covered his origin, introduced complex vilains, had a lot of action and incorporated Superman's supporting characters like Perry White and Lois Lane, very effectively. I also think that the supporting cast was among the best of any superhero film ever and they all did a great job of selling the pseudo-realism of the film. Add to that an epic score, outstanding action sequences and iconic imagery and it is damn near a perfect film.

I have only three minor creative differences with the film 1) Not a fan of Amy Adams as Lois Lane, not because of acting but she looked too old and just was not a good fit chemistry wise 2) The way Jonathan Kent died was just over the top, 3) the cringy kiss that Superman give Lois near the end was in bad taste. If they could retcon that stuff out it, would be a masterpiece in my opinion!

@Forthas - Wonder Woman is still good sequel didn’t ruin first one., if it’s true Wonder Woman 84 ruined first movie then iron man 3 ruined iron man trilogy , Spider-Man 2 ruined Spider-Man trilogy for me and Infinity war ruined avengers movies , not one bad sequel ruins first movie , wasn’t Thor two bad for fans and there making Thor three

@JesseCuster - Those are good but they're also mixed in with a bunch of crap. No movie is a "safe bet", but DC is has too many problems.
Forthas

@dragon316 - Despite Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 being among the weaker Marvel films, they were still rated fresh on RT and had positive audience scores. They were also consequential to future Marvel films. For example, the Mandarin is introduced in Iron Man 3, and it is followed up in a one off and in Shang Chi. In Thor, Frigga dies and Loki becomes an Anti-hero as opposed to a full on villian. That is foillowed up on in Infinity war and even Thor 3.

Wonder Woman 1984 was a complete tonal and narrative shift, that is almost a stand alone in that what should be the HUGE consequenses of that film are never even mentioned in other films. I don't think anything from that film will affect future films unless Cheetah comes back.
