SECRET INVASION Star Cobie Smulders Talks More About Maria Hill's Big Moment In Season Premiere - SPOILERS

Secret Invasion has so far received a mixed, albeit mostly positive, response from MCU fans. The show definitely doesn't appear to be what many people expected, something that was evident from a divisive ending which saw fan-favourite character Maria Hill die at the hands of Skrull leader Gravik.

He was disguised as Nick Fury when he gunned down the former S.H.I.E.L.D. Director, leaving fans to wonder whether Maria died believing her friend and former boss had committed the ultimate act of betrayal.

During an interview with Marvel.com, Smulders talked more about that jaw-dropping conclusion to "Resurrection."

"It was certainly emotional," she said of filming the scene. "It was a bit of a build to that last moment because we were shooting the entire sequence - the explosions, the running, the chasing, that square we were in for a couple of days. Sam and I had some lovely moments. Even though it was a violent send-off, it was a nice day on set for me."

"I don't think that we were privy enough to [Maria’s] knowledge of Skrulls," Smulders continued. "I'd like to think, even though I don't think she had as much awareness of how much the Skrulls have taken over or infiltrated our society - I don't think she's aware enough of to know what level that is."

The actress would go on to share a positive spin on her character's demise, adding: "I do think that there was a moment at the end there where I think that there's a lot going on, but I'd like to think that she knew at the end that it wasn't him, mainly just because of his behavior. So I'd like to think that, but I think it's still very tragic."

As for the impact Maria's death will have on the MCU moving forward, Smulders believes it's Fury who will feel it most. "I think that Fury will continue to worry that she didn't know [it wasn't him]," she teases. "That will propel his story forward."

It's going to be very interesting to see where things go from here, particularly as the premiere only scratches the surface of this Skrull invasion. Without getting into spoilers, the direction the series is heading in definitely becomes clearer after the second instalment.

The first episode of Secret Invasion is now streaming and the second drops this Wednesday.

Her “big moment”? Talk about a corny way to describe what happened 😏

It was a good moment and gave me the illusion that they were stakes for about half a second.

But they'll bring her back via time travel and multiverse before you know it.

@ObserverIO - while I don't think some kind of cameo happening when this multiverse story blows up is out of the question, I'm fairly certain she's gone gone.

unlikely, you overestimate how easily they will use those tools. when they used them previously they knew there was great risk but they had a chance of bringing back 1/2 of all life in the universe so they did it. they won't be doing the same for a single person.
villains will pursue the tech, and chaos will result if they use it. the heroes will not pursue its use... even strange was warned about it in the sanctum when he used the eye for the first time with the apple.

Bros, i think she's dead fosho (that's what the scoopers say at least).

Sad, they always wasted her, like so many other characters, now i'm not someone who loves Age of Ultron but i reckon that's where i liked her more, where someone gave her SOMETHING, she actually felt part of the team, ya know?

I was always intrigued by her character (yes, I have a crush on Cobie lol). She was probably the main reason while I was watching the show, so if she's dead I won't continue watching it weekly. I'll just binge it if Quake appears or something like that, cause honestly it's not that great. I really don't care about Talos.

Okay, what’s with the cobie smulders articles ? She was never a major character in any capacity. She never mattered, so let’s move on

@xfactor - you could also just not click on them and move on

@SATW42 @xfactor - As a matter of fact, that's basically the only thing one could do to keep articles like this from popping up in the future. Fewer clicks = fewer ad impressions = fewer articles in the future.

I 100% was NOT happy about her character's death. Very disappointed.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the episode and am looking forward to the rest.

Her death didn't bother me at all. AT. ALL. She never should have been cast in that role. One of the weakest castings in the MCU all along. And don't get me wrong, I liked her in How I Met Your Mother, but Hill was not a character she should have been playing. She shouldn't have even been allowed close to that role.

Cobie, like RDJ was probably looking for a way out of the MCU... and Marvel writers likely gave her an option while also serving the story.
Even Hemsworth will want a way out at some point.
Evans possibly already had his.

Sucks that she had to be the first major casualty of this story arc, even if it does feel like it borders the ground of fridging a female character to develop another male's character forward.

Unlike some I did like her take on Maria Hill. The version from the comics that is always so strict and even an obstacle to the Avengers when they're all on the same side always rested more than adding something so I'll always keep close this take on the character that was more amicable and felt more at times with Fury that she was like a real person.

So yeah I particular don't think she was "wasted" exactly.

Hope she gets justice by the end of the miniseries.
