At the end of WandaVision's fifth episode (which aired nearly a month ago), Evan Peters made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Pietro Maximoff. It's since been revealed that Agatha Harkness was involved in Quicksilver being "recast," but we still don't know whether the speedster is the real deal - with a new face - or was plucked out of the Multiverse.
It's also feasible he's just a random Westview resident, though some fans are convinced he's actually Wonder Man, and that "WandaVision" will be Simon Williams' big break as an actor.
Asked by Fandom about bringing Evans into the series, director Matt Shakman says: "I was so super excited. I’m a huge fan of Evan and he’s amazingly talented. I was thrilled that we were able to make that work. That was an early idea that we had to really make sure we did right. It was thrilling to get him in the show."
He also acknowledged that keeping his role a secret was easier said than done. "We had to hide him under capes and towels and all sorts of stuff to keep that secret for as long as we could. We didn’t quite make it to airdate with that secret a secret but we did our best!"
Pushed to reveal whether fans can expect some definitive answers about "Fietro" in the WandaVision finale, Shakman chose his words carefully. "I think there’s a strong possibility you might get a little more of Evan Peters coming up. But how that plays out, I wouldn’t want to say."
The plot thickens, but there's a lot to squeeze into Friday's final episode, and it will hopefully be somewhat satisfying, as a "To Be Continued..." style finale leading into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness might not work for everyone. It would be cool for the MCU to get a new Quicksilver heading into Phase 4, but we might want to brace ourselves for something else.
