Thanks to the events of WandaVision, the Scarlet Witch has become integral to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's future. She's always been an important part of the franchise, but thanks to the Disney+ series, much of Phase 4 could revolve around Wanda Maximoff.
We first met the character in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Elizabeth Olsen has now told The Hollywood Reporter's Awards Chatter podcast just how short that first deal with Marvel Studios was: "I signed on for two [movies] and a cameo. I’ve gone through three rounds of contracts with Marvel already. I just do, like, appetizers or something, they never have me over for the big meal!"
"People sign six-movie, nine-movie deals, I’ve heard," Olsen continued. "That’s a lot! And they didn’t really know how much further it was gonna go. We never knew if we were even gonna touch half the stuff we did in WandaVision."
Now, the actress can look forward to playing a much bigger role in the MCU, but it sounds like she was glad to have that lighter schedule to begin with. "[It] really has benefited me because they only continue to use me, not cause they have to, but because they think there’s story that can be used. And so I’ve always felt p even though I’ve had my own scheduling that has broken my heart in certain moments - I have always felt like they had a plan for me, and never really let me in on what that plan was, but I knew that they would only use me if it was useful."
It appears Olsen may have missed out on other highly sought after roles due to her MCU commitments, something that may eventually prompt her to depart this shared comic book world should it persist. For now, though, her story will continue in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and it's there the stage will be set for whatever comes next for her...or where her story ends.
Seeing as Wanda has only just transformed into the Scarlet Witch, though, we have a feeling that there's much more to come from her over the next few years...
