WANDAVISION Star Teyonah Parris Teases "Badass" Monica Rambeau And "Action Movie Mixed With Sitcoms"

WandaVision star Teyonah Parris has expressed her excitement for the Disney+ series, hinting at a key role for the adult Monica Rambeau and a show that's like an "action movie mixed with sitcoms."

We first met Monica Rambeau in Captain Marvel, but given the '90s setting of that movie, the comic book Avenger was still a child. In Disney+'s WandaVision, she's a S.W.O.R.D. agent and clearly caught right in the middle of whatever it is the Scarlet Witch and The Vision are up to in their sitcom world.

In a recent interview with The Undefeated, actress Teyonah Parris shared her excitement to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"That has been a childhood dream [to] be a Marvel superhero. I can even remember...I’ve always said that I want to be a superhero. And then when the MCU opened up, I think I was in college. And then it was like, 'Oh, I want to be a Marvel superhero.'"

Parris went on to explain that she didn't think that would ever be an option for her, but expressed her excitement for fans to see what Monica brings to the table in this shared comic book world.

"I’m very grateful to be a part of this universe," the actress said. "And Monica Rambeau is such a badass. She’s such a badass in the comics. And, I just can’t even believe this is happening. This is full on action movie mixed with sitcoms. It’s wild."

It's clear WandaVision is going to be unlike anything we've ever seen from Marvel Studios before, and these comments emphasise that. Whether Parris has a future as a superhero remains to be seen, but if it's going to happen, then the groundwork will more than likely be laid in WandaVision. We'll just have to wait and see.

''And then when the MCU opened up, I think I was in college. And then it was like, 'Oh, I want to be a Marvel superhero.'''

I think it's pretty cool that this probably applies for a lot of talent joining the MCU nowadays.

@bkmeijer - I remember Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong'o said something similar. They saw Avengers in theatres in 2012.

When you play a character that was called 'Captain Marvel' and led the Avengers 25 years before Carol Danvers did.

She seems cool. Might even lead her own fraction of Avengers (Strikeforce?).

Better than being a black sidekick like Rhodey and Falcon.

What's cool about this is that Marvel has made the decision to give their characters a lifespan and not reboot a la Bond. Just bring a new batch of heroes.
