We first met Monica Rambeau in Captain Marvel, but given the '90s setting of that movie, the comic book Avenger was still a child. In Disney+'s WandaVision, she's a S.W.O.R.D. agent and clearly caught right in the middle of whatever it is the Scarlet Witch and The Vision are up to in their sitcom world.
In a recent interview with The Undefeated, actress Teyonah Parris shared her excitement to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"That has been a childhood dream [to] be a Marvel superhero. I can even remember...I’ve always said that I want to be a superhero. And then when the MCU opened up, I think I was in college. And then it was like, 'Oh, I want to be a Marvel superhero.'"
Parris went on to explain that she didn't think that would ever be an option for her, but expressed her excitement for fans to see what Monica brings to the table in this shared comic book world.
"I’m very grateful to be a part of this universe," the actress said. "And Monica Rambeau is such a badass. She’s such a badass in the comics. And, I just can’t even believe this is happening. This is full on action movie mixed with sitcoms. It’s wild."
It's clear WandaVision is going to be unlike anything we've ever seen from Marvel Studios before, and these comments emphasise that. Whether Parris has a future as a superhero remains to be seen, but if it's going to happen, then the groundwork will more than likely be laid in WandaVision. We'll just have to wait and see.
