EXTRACTION 2 Starring Chris Hemsworth Expected To Begin Shooting Next Year According To Joe Russo

Extraction has not only proved to be one of Netflix's most popular original films, but also one of the best. Now, writer/producer Joe Russo has shared an update on when the sequel is set to begin shooting.

We haven't exactly seen a lot of movies in theaters during 2020, but streaming services have definitely gone some way towards making up for that. Netflix, for example, has had a pretty good year, with Extraction a definite highlight. Directed by Marvel Cinematic Universe stunt co-ordinator, Sam Hargrave, and written by Joe Russo, it didn't take long until a sequel was officially announced.

During a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Joe shared an update on the follow-up (which will see Chris Hemsworth reprise the role of Tyler Rake), and there's some good news.

"Yeah we're still working on two," the Avengers: Endgame director confirmed. "We're in the script phase right now but we're hoping to shoot that sometime next year. And then you know, say I'm super excited, Hemsworth's super excited, Netflix is excited so it's really just a function of getting the script done."

It's not surprising that Netflix is keen to get cameras rolling as soon as possible because Extraction is a franchise with serious potential, and there's a lot of desire for a sequel. Having a legit Hollywood A-Lister like Hemsworth as a regular on the streaming service will also be beneficial, and we'll no doubt begin to get some casting news for this highly anticipated follow-up in the New Year.

That's pretty impressive if they can start shooting next year. Chris still has his Hulk Hogan biopic and the Mad Max: Furiosa spin-off to shoot before this.

I liked the first one. I'll watch another. Sometimes entertaining two hours are enough, even if they aren't super memorable.

Considering what happened at the end of the first movie, it will be interesting to see how they explain someone's reappearance in the second. Although having read more than my share of comics, they will no doubt think of some kind of ingenious or better yet ridiculous way. Doesn't matter. Really enjoyed the first go round, sure I will for the sequel.

@mugens - wait, I don't remember what happened at the end. Didn't he just show up at the pool or something?

Really liked the action in this one. However, I wish Hollywood could do away with the ugly yellow filter they use for South Asian countries and Mexico.

I want a sequel to Old Guard. I wasn't interested in that until I found out Rucka wrote the screenplay. It was a lot of potential for a sequel.

The action was great in the first one, so I wouldn't mind seeing more of it. Especially if it means Chris slapping the shit out of more kids.

I can easily see this go down a (early) Die Hard route too, where each entry is a seperate story where our main guy is injected into.
