OBI-WAN KENOBI Footage Description Confirms That The Jedi Master Will Once Again Clash With Darth Vader

A lot of the footage shown during last night's Disney Investor Day wasn't shared online, and a description of the sizzle reel reveals that Obi-Wan Kenobi will pit the Jedi Master against Darth Vader...

During the Lucasfilm portion of Disney's Investor Day, we learned that Obi-Wan Kenobi will feature the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader. Now, we have some new details on the role the Sith Lord is set to play in the show along with plenty of other intel about the Disney+ TV series.

Director Deborah Chow says that the Galaxy, ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, is a dangerous place, and for Kenobi, "it's not safe." Why? Well, because there are "Jedi hunters out there." Star Ewan McGregor, meanwhile, notes that Obi-Wan has "one task left" and that is "keep Luke [Skywalker] safe."

Concept art also revealed an unnamed Jedi defending a trio of Younglings from Anakin Skywalker in the Jedi Temple, so Hayden Christensen will presumably be playing Darth Vader shortly after he was given that title by Palpatine. How much do you want to bet we'll see how Grogu survived?

Chow also shared some artwork of Darth Vader seated on a throne as he communicates with someone via hologram, while confirming that we will "definitely see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader get into it again." McGregor adds, "It'll be amazing to bring those characters back together again, very unexpectedly. Having another swing at each other might be quite satisfying for everybody."

Their respective red and blue lightsabers were shown clashing, so something is clearly going to happen which leads to Obi-Wan and Vader crossing paths before that battle in A New Hope.

Exciting times, eh?

They are just milking Star Wars at this point. We would like to see more original content with new characters, settings and time. Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau need to take charge of Star Wars.

@pyramosteu - How are those two any different from Disney milking Star Wars? They literally announced two Mandalorian spin-offs today man

@DaHyro - I think his point is those are brand new shows with brand new characters.

Pitting old characters against each other just for the sake of it where is doesn't make sense is kinda lazy. For example, I think it's pretty clear that the Death Star fight is meant to be their first actual fight in a very long time.

@Nightwing1015 - I was just thinking this. It doesn't make sense for Obi Wan and Vader to fight again. Theh fought when Vader forst turned, then again on the Death Star. I'm not sure how they would run into each other in between those times.

@CorndogBurglar - My only thought on how it could happen is if Obi-Wan had some sort of Force induced nightmare about failing Anakin. Then it could be interesting.

@pyramosteu - You mean, like.... Every single announced project besides this one and Lando, both of which have been heavily demanded by fans for years?

@Nightwing1015 - I mean, if they fight here that still leaves 9 years before the Death Star encounter.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 12/11/2020, 10:41 AM
@OmegaBlack13 - Yeah but it's very clear that their Death Star meeting is the first time they've actually met since Order 66.

Vader literally says "when we last fought I was the pupil and now I'm the master" or something to that effect.

@Nightwing1015 - "When I left you, I was the learner, now I am the Master". I thought the same thing, but I took a look at it and it doesn't really eliminate the possibility that they've fought since.
Nightwing1015
Nightwing1015 - 12/11/2020, 12:47 PM
@DarthVegas - Ehhhh, I'm not sure. The implication in that statement is that they haven't met since they left one another.

At a stretch I guess it's ok but certainly not something that was ever intended. I don't think they even met again in Legends.

@Nightwing1015 - In the current Vader comics the Emperor treats him very much like a subordinate and constantly reminds him who’s in charge. It’s not surprising that 10 years in that dynamic would still be in place, him being a pupil of the dark side. Then 9 years later, after he’s gone through some more shit, he’d be a full dark lord. Obviously this wasn’t the original intent with the line but it matches up just fine.

@OmegaBlack13 - That's the problem, you have to use mental gymnastics to even make the quote make sense and even then what's the overall point? I don't see why they need to meet in that gap. It adds nothing but a cool fight and makes their Death Star confrontation seem less special. Just my opinion, I think Vader could still play a part in the show without them meeting.

Would love to see the story of the first Jedi and the first to turn to the darkside

I really want to hear this music play again if they meet again... out of all the stuff they remastered and changed in the original stuff, I’d have liked a mini version of this to play during the Ben and Vader fight in ANH

I know this series is only supposed to be 6 episodes, but I would love to see a bottle episode mainly focused on Darth Vader. It would be great if we could see Vader in his down time, maybe show him visiting padmè's tomb or in his castle hanging out. That would scratch the itch for wanting a Vader solo film.

I find almost all the star wars movies to be really dorky. But mandalorian is [frick]ing amazing. Forget these characters from shitty dated prequels full of bad acting and terrible dialogue and go with new characters. Its a cool universe, fill it with awesomeness and leave the daggy stuff behind.

Not really a fan of Vader being in this.

@Kyos - I'm okay with him being in it. I'm not sure I like that Obi Wan and Vader will fight again though. It doesn't really make sense.
Kyos
Kyos - 12/11/2020, 5:23 AM
@CorndogBurglar - Yeah, okay, that's actually closer to how I feel as well. Vader can have a presence in the story, but a confrontation between him and Obi-Wan seems problematic.

@CorndogBurglar - That’s where I’m at too...I’ve said for years I wanted a series that took place post RotS that followed Vader as he continues the Jedi purge throughout the Galaxy...I don’t to be in a series that links him back up with Obi-Wan however...That’s just too much for me...By the time ANH happens Vader should be in a place where he believes Obi-Wan is long dead, that’s what makes their meeting in the Death Star so meaningful...Having them meet in ANY way between those encounters really diminishes the Death Star showdown for me...

Can’t wait for the Obi Wan series. Cos then I’m out! Don’t care for most of the expanded stuff so once I’ve got my final hit I’m done

"I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete. When I met you I was but the learner. Now, I am the master."

Context is key...

"We meet again (again), at last."
