ROGUE ONE Star Ben Mendelsohn Will Return As Orson Krennic For ANDOR Season 2

After reprising the role of Talos for Secret Invasion, Ben Mendelsohn is set to revisit another movie character on the small screen when he returns as Orson Krennic for season 2 of Andor...

For many Star Wars fans, Andor is one of, if not the best Disney+ show set in the Galaxy Far, Far Away Lucasfilm has produced, and even though we know how Rebel operative Cassian Andor's story ultimately ends, there's a lot of excitement for the upcoming second season, which will lead directly into the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

During an appearance at this year's ACE Superhero Comic Con (via The Popverse), actor Diego Luna shared his enthusiasm to get started (production is expected to begin later this year), while confirming that we will see other characters from Rogue One.

“I can tell you, Rogue One is coming, so there will be characters there that you will recognize. There will be cool stuff. For those who love Rogue One, this season is going to be very special. And it’s going to be fascinating to go straight to Rogue One after watching this second season, because you will see Rogue One from a different perspective. I promise you that.”

“It’s fantastic,” Luna continued. “The only thing I can tell you is what happens at the end. It’s the world upside down. That’s the only thing you don’t talk about in an interview, but here we all know what the end is. I can tell you one thing, Tony Gilroy is a fantastic writer, and he created amazing characters that we got to meet in Andor season one. It’s going to be a very rich second season, because all those stories matter today. It is a true ensemble piece. It got very complicated in season one, and everything has to get resolved. Every story matters.”

It was initially assumed that Luna was referring to Cassian's former Imperial Droid sidekick K2 (voiced by Alan Tudyk), but according to The Playlist, Ben Mendelsohn will also be back as villainous Imperial Officer Orson Krennic.

Director Alonso Ruizpalacios, who will board season 2 along with Ariel Kleiman and Janus Metz, mentioned Mendelsohn's name among some of the actors he was looking forward to working with. He also revealed that he will helm the last three episodes of the 12-episode series.

The site doesn't share many other details, but does note that Mendelsohn will likely show up towards the end of the season, which would make sense given the timeframe.

The Secret Invasion actor had previously indicated that he wasn't going to be involved with Andor, so this is definitely a welcome development. Whether we will actually see Krennic cross paths with Cassian remains to be seen, but the characters didn't appear to know each other in Rogue One.

Andor follows thief-turned-rebel spy Cassian Andor during the five years that lead to the events of the two films, exploring how he becomes radicalized against the Galactic Empire and how the wider Rebel Alliance is formed.

Ben Mendelsohn in Bloodline is so next level great. That shows first two seasons are fantastic IMO.season 1 especially. Season 3 wasnt terrible it just didn't compare to 1 and 2. But still worth the watch. Mendelsohn is just a brilliant actor completely wasted by Feige and the MCU unfortunately. More Krennic is great news. Tony Gilroy should be given the keys to whatever he wants honestly. Singlehandedly saved Rogue One and Andor is just so well done.

@McMurdo - DUDE! I was actually gonna post the same thing about Ben Mendelsohn in the Netflix series. I liked the whole series but Mendelsohn's character in season 1 takes the win 10xs more than the rest of the cast.

He could be a decent Sinestro. Maybe the Clockwork villain. Heck, he'd be an awesome Scarecrow and most of all The Question.

@lazlodaytona - yes man honestly the whole cast in Bloodline is fantastic but he was elite status as Danny Rayburn.

Great news! An awesome villain from the best Disney Star Wars movie appearing in the best Disney Star Wars show is an absolute win!

@mountainman - while i did poke a joke at disney star wars, I do think this is great.

Unfortunately the plan was always two seasons then the andor story will have caught up with where we met him in rogue one.

@Origame - I’d prefer two good seasons to dragging it out. I just wish they had more good projects like this on the slate.

@mountainman - I know. But with andor being the only good series this is gonna suck.

Think it can get worse than the acolyte?

@Origame - It most certainly can. The future is hard to predict. All I can do is not support projects that I don’t want getting my money.

If Star Wars continues to go down into the dumps, there are plenty of other scifi/fantasy properties out there that are good.

He should have a mustache all season. And never even talk about shaving it. Because continuity to disney star wars is like points on whose line is it anyway.

Cool. I didn't get to see enough of his character in Secret Invasion, and I wasn't happy with his death.

@LSHF - yeah , I liked him and wish he wasn’t killed offf but oh well.

Makes sense but still cool regardless (I think he also came back to voice the character in an episode of The Bad Batch aswell).

I thought the character was alright in Rogue One , I wish he was fleshed out more but I did like the idea of him just wanting credit and recognition for creating the Death Star with no real loyalty except to his own ambition.

Anyway , Mendelsohn was good though as always so intrigued to see how he’ll factor in to the show and whether it will be a recurring or one off appearance.

Not guna lie. Rogue One is the BEST SW movie since Empire Strikes BAck. I didnt ask or want an Andor show originally but man did i LOVE it. The BEST Sw show out there. I like Mando and Ashoka but Andor is far superior. Can't wait for S2 and this is a very welcome addition back

Even though I thought Rogue One was just decent , I did like the K2SO character quite a bit so I hope we see him in this aswell…

Maybe even have it be one of the episode arcs or so where he enountered & reprogrammed him perhaps?:

@TheVisionary25 - If the events of this season lead directly to Rogue One, we'll definitely see K2S0. Can't wait!

More Alan Tudyk is never a bad thing imo.

I hope we get Mon Mothma cutting her hair off in this season. If you’ve seen Rogue One, you know why. She’s important, like Leia is, in the Saga. I wonder if Bail Organa makes a cameo in Andor season 2.

Looking forward to K2SO showing up.

Awesome, he’s one of if not the best character to come out of the Disney era of Star Wars.

Great actor, was especially good on Bloodline.

That's great news, and not even that unexpected with the Empire POV already featuring in some story arcs.

And I'm sure K2 will be in this season as well. It's a given if this leads directly into Rogue One without any timejump inbetween where Andor could've programmed him.
