STAR WARS: Dave Filoni Named Chief Creative Officer Of Lucasfilm; Is "Exploring" AHSOKA Season 2

Dave Filoni, the architect of the animated side of the galaxy far, far away, has been promoted to Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm, and is now "exploring" a second season of Ahsoka...

For better or worse, Dave Filoni is going to have a much bigger say in the creative direction of the Star Wars franchise going forward.

The cast and crew of Ahsoka were unable to promote the show while it was streaming on Disney+ due to the strikes, but they are now free to discuss the series, and Vanity Fair has published an in-depth piece on The Mandalorian spin-off and what the future holds for the characters who were first introduced in the animated corner of the galaxy far, far away.

The biggest reveal is that Filoni is now Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm, meaning he will have a lot more input in the development of new big and small screen projects as he works more directly with Kathleen Kennedy to oversee the next generation of Star Wars shows and movies.

“In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways,” he says of his new role. "It’s opened up to basically everything that’s going on. When we’re planning the future of what we’re doing now, I’m involved at the inception phase.”

“I’m not telling people what to do,” Filoni continued. “But I do feel I’m trying to help them tell the best story that they want to tell. I need to be a help across the galaxy here, like a part of a Jedi Council almost.”

Filoni is still set to take the helm of an untitled Star Wars movie that will serve as a culmination of the various Disney+ shows (the ones that take place in the same timeline, at least), but will we get to revisit Ahsoka in the meantime? The report notes that it seems all-but "assured" and Filoni is "exploring" a second season, but nothing has been made official just yet.

Star Rosario Dawson sounds pretty confident that another season will happen, however.

“I mean, they've not said anything officially, but I remember when we were at Star Wars Celebration in London and they were like, 'We're giving Dave a movie!' And I was like, 'I kind of feel like that means we're probably going to get a second season.' For a while now, and especially now with the strike and everything, no one can say anything. But he did say he was working on an outline. So, we'll see.”

How do you feel about Filoni being named CCO of Lucasfilm? Be sure to share your thoughts in the comments section.

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

The series stars Rosario Dawson in the title role, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, with Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Kevin Kiner was announced as the series' composer.

Ahoska is written by executive producer Dave Filoni, alongside executive producers Favreau, Kennedy, Wilson, and Beck. Gilchrist is co-executive producer. The series’ directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel and Rick Famuyiwa.

It took them an entire season to basically just have Thrawn arrive... what a mess.

Season 2 would no doubt be wasting time, having Ahsoka and company get back to the original universe to set-up the movie where they'll all fight Thrawn.

Star Wars is Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa.
And Luke is Hamill, Han is Ford, Leia is Fisher.

Star Wars is not like Marvel or DC where -in case you f*ck up- you can just reboot the universe and start from scratch, although i'm sure one day they will try to reboot/remake the OG trilogy with brand new actors, shit...in a way, they are already getting there but it wont work.

Once you character assassinate someone like Luke it's done, unless you retcon some shit in some way, it's f*cking over.
Leave him dead and forgotten and move to some new galaxy with some new characters and try and HOPE to recapture the same kinda magic that made people fall in love with SW, good luck with Rey "Skywalker" or whoever the f*ck you want.

Disney had something so f*cking valuable in their hands and they f*cking blew it, Mark Hamill alone could've made all kinds of movies and shows but

Good luck Filoni, you're my man, but for real...F*ck em.

@Doomsday8888 - What do you think...

Han will be black and disabled, Lando of course will remain black.
Luke and Leia will be they/thems, possibly played by the same trans actor just brushing their hair in different directions depending on which one they are playing. Han of course just can not be the love interest for Leia, as that is way to cliché, instead Leia will engage in a love story with either Chewbacca or R2-D2 to represent the interests of those people into animals or robots.
Meanwhile Obi-Wan will be a grumpy lesbian who resents the patriachy, I mean the Empire.
Vader's suit will be made white, when he is revealed in the remake of return of the jedi he will be black, as it turns out he's been an uncle tom all those years for the Empriachy.

@Doomsday8888 - It’s so crazy to see your comment because I’ve been saying something similar since The Last Jedi shit all over this lifelong Star Wars fan and I’ve been screamed at with “but Andor is the best Star Wars has ever been!!!”

No. I don’t give a flying absolute [frick] about Andor I’m sorry. Hell, when I grew up in the 80’s/90’s I didn’t give a [frick] about the rebellion even then. HAN, LUKE & LEIA WERE THE REBELLION TO ME. That’s all I cared about.

Now, I was so interested in the Jedi so I’ll give them that. But that’s why my parents took me out of school the day Phantom Menace came out - even in the OT I was interested in Anakin’s backstory. And the glory days of the Jedi.

So to piggyback on your original comment, the only thing I’ll concede is for me, Star Wars is about the Force, about the Jedi. At the end of the day for this Star Wars fan, it’s about all of them - Anakin, obi-wan, the Jedi.

People always give me crap because “you don’t want to see Star Wars grow” no man I don’t. Because even if the galaxy is vast, it’s stories that make you a fan. And at the end of the day if there aren’t stories that you connect with, the universe isn’t worth exploring or expanding on.

I dunno man. The whole Star Wars TV thing has been half and half: Andor and the first 2 seasons of the Mandalorian were awesome. But season 3, Boba Fett, Ahsoka and Obi Wan have all been boring through to shit. I’m not confident. Especially with Kathleen Kennedy still there. Jesus, what an incompetent hack.

I hope they do KOTOR to try to regain some goodwill of the fans and they it from there. Don't touch Skywalkers.

Dave Filoni is the best thing to ever happen to Star Wars. He is Kevin Feige. I want his hands on everything big and small screen.

How soon before these chuckleheads start bitching about Filoni “ruining” Star Wars?
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 11/22/2023, 9:05 AM
@philinterrupted - after whenever the next thing is coming out. Even if it doesn't have Filoni's direct involvement.

People just want a scapegoat when the franchise they like put something out that isn't what they wanted it to be, regardless of the quality
philinterrupted
philinterrupted - 11/22/2023, 9:28 AM
@bkmeijer1 - a lot of times in fandom, especially Star Wars, people think things always have to fit within their own narrow view of what something should be. What they don’t realize is that there are countless other perspectives of the same piece of entertainment. I know not everything is made for me in mind. Aside from very few examples, which there are some, I don’t know if many things star wars has been truly terrible.

@philinterrupted - ''I know not everything is made for me''

That's a really great stance. And I think that's missing in larger fandoms, especially Star Wars (and Marvel now too). People just don't tend to notice when it is made for them, but start shouting ''pandering!'' when it's not them that's being pandered to.

So I’m about to say something that is most likely going to have repercussions but I see this guy as basically Zach Snyder…

Much like Snyder, Felloni had some good early shows he directed under his belt like episodes of avatar and the clone wars (snyder had 300, dawn of the dead, and watchmen) while having some poor films like the clone wars film and writing on some modern sw shows (Snyder had the guardians and sucker punch). Then they decide to throw all their money on Felloni into this new era of sw when he hasn’t really proven himself as the kind of guy who can do this stuff yet as his most recent works are decidedly more mixed with overall poor writing much like what wb did with Snyder after mixed reception to man of steel.

The man definitely has a passion for sw but unless his first work absolutely blows everyone’s mind and becomes a massive hit I see see continuing on it’s struggling path.

MotherGooseUPus - 11/22/2023, 8:47 AM
@EZBeast - i see what youre saying but i disagree. he isn't like Snyder and want bastardize and ruin great characters like Snyder did. this man KNOWS SW and for the most part knows what the fans want. IMO, his Clone Wars, Rebels and Ashoka shows all were great. Yes there were some duds here and there but his track record is solid and knows SW lore and won't go killing of characters for shits and giggles like Snyder does
EZBeast
EZBeast - 11/22/2023, 8:52 AM
@MotherGooseUPus - I agreed he for sure has more passion for the source or at least maintaining it’s integrity but it a more general comparison of previous works and the way he obtained his position I feel is way too similar. I just feel this is early celebrations for a man, like Snyder, who people were for even though they had yet to truly prove themselves.

Also for you ?si=RnTJw3BMr-71s8Vz
