There were rumors that a new animated Star Wars series would be announced at Star Wars Celebration, and it turned out to be true. Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, which was leaked ahead of the convention via the paneling schedule, was revealed to be coming to Disney+ later this year.

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is an original animated anthology series set during the prequel era of the Star Wars universe. The series will consist of six animated shorts, each story featuring Jedi from the prequel era.

Three of the episodes will focus on the life of Ahsoka, from her early childhood days to her time spent with Anakin Skywalker during the Clone Wars to her face off with an Inquisitor after Order 66. The other three episodes will focus on Count Dooku during his life as a Jedi before turning to the dark side.

The episodes will feature various fan-favorite prequel characters including Anakin Skywalker and Mace Windu. But perhaps nothing is as exciting as Liam Neeson returning to voice Qui-Gon Jinn. During the series, we'll also see a younger version of the Jedi Master, who will be voiced by Neeson's son, Michael.

Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will premiere this Fall on Disney+. The great Dave Filoni is on board as writer and executive producer for the series.

I was not expecting this, but I'm all in, especially to hear Liam Nesson again and to actually explore Dooku in his Jedi years and of coarse seeing more Ahsoka. I wonder what kind of animation style the series will have?

@FusionWarrior - I hope there is going to be a companion series called Tales of the Sith giving us the origins of Palpatine, Maul, and the formation of the Inquisitors

Really there is gonna be no shortage of Star Wars stuff with Tales of the Jedi, Young Jedi Adventures, Skeleton Crew, Lego Star Wars Summer Vacation and A Droid Story.

Hearing Neeson is cool, but none really excite me. For some reason I get Forces of Destiny flashbacks from this announcement, and the rest just doesn't sound all that compelling either.

I like this, but a limited animated series centered on the figure of Tarre Vizsla would be interesting. The Mandalorian Jedi.

In a time when the Mythosaur ruled the wasteland and Mandalore's society was traditionally hunters, Tarre Vizsla returns home to lead the House of Vizsla. There he forges the Darksaber, unifies the houses, and trains the fearsome Mythosaur.

I hope this is in Clone Wars style. Would rather have them do this than Bad Batch.

Sigh …

Dooku prequel is interesting…

But where is Naomi Sunrider? Ulic Qel-Droma? Naga Sadow? Empress Teta?

Disney pilfered their IP and then tossed the guts into the trash heap.

For shame.

@IronGenesis - None of it was ever canon. Ever. Get over it.

@Deklipz - I don't agree that none of it was ever canon. In the 90s the Star Wars brand was basically kept alive by "official" EU works.
I don't particularly care what Disney says is official though, because all of it really always has been ancillary to the film series.

@PapaSpank54 - agree or not lucasfilm was ALWAYS upfront they the only things officially canon were the movies and then the Clone wars series. Yes, SW was kept alive by mediocre EU stories, that Lucasfilm and George Lucas himself always stated were not canon. It’s why they had the multiple levels of canon BS that Disney got rid of.

What you agree with or not has nothing to do with reality. Which is that nothing was actually canon outside of 6 movies and a single cartoon series.

@PapaSpank54 - there was some fun stuff in the EU, which I’m glad they’re adapting. But I’m glad they aren’t bringing the crap history along for the ride. The EU was a huge pile of conflicting narratives and authors who frequently ignored storylines and characters throughout cooperative book series to cater to their own pet BS characters.

This just reminds me of what a waste Episode I was. We spend the entire movie following Qui Gon, a character that has zero impact on any of the later episodes. (Don't give me that "he taught Obi Wan the force ghost thing off camera" bullshit.)

A whole movie where Anakin and Obi Wan's early relationship could've been explored...instead, we get a medicated Liam Neeson who dies like a chump and influences the series in no way. 😐

@Feralwookiee - huh? by choosing to take Anakin out of slavery and his efforts to induct him into the Jedi Order, he literally sets the entire Star Wars trilogy in motion.

@Feralwookiee - I have to strongly disagree. Jin is the Ned Stark of the Star Wars. He may have a limited appearance but his death is the catalyst for the entire prequel series.

As George Lucas has said if Jin had lived to train anakin then he would have never been Darth Vader. Also Dooku would have never helped to start the Clone Wars and the Jedi Council wouldn't have lost one of the last members who was trying to keep them on the right path.

So put a little respect on his name lol

@Feralwookiee - I love episode I warts and all, but really the actual amount of stuff it sets up that is of import to the prequel story is minimal. Episode II basically reintroduces the characters anyway, and the Clone War really gets blown through which feels like a waste.

I wish they did more animated shows or specials instead of live action.
Honestly, people are more forgiving of animated shows.
