Bill Burr has never been afraid to speak his mind, and the stand-up comedian turned actor has now come to the defence of his The Mandalorian costar Gina Carano during the latest episode of his podcast.

The news broke last month that Carano had been fired from her role as Cara Dune on the Disney+ Star Wars series for what Lucasfilm called an "abhorrent" Instagram post, but that was just the straw that broke the camel's back, as the former MMA fighter had been stirring up controversy for weeks on social media.

However, Burr doesn't seem to think she said anything bad enough to warrant her dismissal.

“Unless she did some truly horrible shit or said overtly racist shit,” Burr said. “I don’t know. I think there is just too many channels. And then you gotta do sensational shit… I don’t know what the f*ck it is. I’m on that f*cking show. Now, I gotta watch what the f*ck I say.”

“She was an absolute sweetheart," he added. "Super nice [frick]ing person. And you know... somehow someone will take this video and they’ll make me say something else and try to get rid of my bald action figure… It’s how it is out there. It’s f*cking crazy times. People just waiting, laying in the weeds.”

Carano was set to have a more prominent role in season 3 of The Mandalorian before going on to headline at least one spinoff for the streamer, but that's obviously not on the cards anymore. She is making a movie with Ben Shapiro, though, so swings and roundabouts and all that.

What do you make of Burr's comments? You can hear what he has to say for yourselves in the player below.

Truth. Can’t have an opinion contrary to the group.

@Supercat6376 - Not true. When you work for a company or on a big hollywood project you sign a contract. If a person becomes a problem for a company and they don't follow the terms and conditions of their contract that company has every right to fire that employee. Freedom of Speech does not protect one from Freedom of Consequences.

@Supercat6376 - Nailed it. We liberals hate comparing political ideologies to victims of torture and genocide. You got us there, my guy. So much for the tolerant left, amirite?

@TyrantBossMedia - I'm not going to engage you with your whataboutism. Everytime you post you refuse to hear anyone else's point of view without bringing other events or time periods involving people you dislike to justify your current position on your rhetoric. So forgive me but I'm not entertaining you tonight.

@BroskiTroski - Did she compare political ideologies? Or compare harassment about it?

And why does this mean her life and career has less value?

@SonOfAGif - A company doesn't decide what's right and wrong. And they don't get to decide that someone's life and career have less value than that. But why, with or without company, does that also justify people on the internet devaluing someone's life and career, as well?

@dagenspear - That's where you're wrong. Any private company has the right to decide what policies their employees must follow. Example: (No racial discrimination). If an employee breaks that rule they have every right to fire them. And for your question regarding people on the internet. A consumer like you and I have the power to decide what companies or people we want to support. If I don't like an actor I don't have to pay to see their films. And vice versa. If 6 million people disliked what Gina said they have every right to not buy into her products.

@SonOfAGif - You're wrong. They do not decide what's right and wrong. Only God does.

Is what she said racial discrimination? Did she racially discriminate?

And why does this make that justified or right? I'm not saying people don't do that. People do. It doesn't make them right or justified to judge and push for people to be fired, or devalue the lives and careers of people based on what she said, as far as I know.
