This week's episode of The Mandalorian saw Din Djarin and The Child encounter a pair of Rebel X-Wing pilots while ferrying "Frog Lady" (anyone catch her name?) to her home planet. One was played by Dave Filoni, and the other was Kim's Convenience actor Paul Sun-Hyung Lee.
During an interview with CBC, the life-long Star Wars fan revealed how he landed the role of Carson Teva, and explained why being a part of the galaxy far, far away means so much to him.
Lee is an old friend of director Deborah Chow, who said she planned to write a part for him when they met back in 2018. When he was told he'd be playing a new republic pilot who crosses paths with the titular bounty hunter, he was understandably very excited - but he wasn't prepared for what happened when he arrived on set.
The wardrobe department wanted a photo of Lee in costume before his character's X-Wing uniform was ready, so they handed him a prop from the original Star Wars film, and he shed a tear once he realized who the helmet belonged to.
"I look at it because I know the pattern. I said, 'Is that Bigg's helmet?' And they said, 'Yeah, how do you know?' Because I'm a nerd. Because this is one of the first movies I remember seeing with my dad, with my sister — and I was not expecting to hold, let alone wear a piece of my history on my head."
"I was five years old again," he added. "I got transported to that galaxy far, far away, [I've spent] my entire life watching the movies. To finally be there, to be sitting there, didn't want to leave."
We're not sure if Lee will get the chance to reprise the role of Teva on The Mandalorian, but we certainly hope to see him again at some point.
A brief description for "Chapter 11" has also been released, and it looks like this will be the episode that sees Mando take a little boat trip (we were way off last week!)
"The Mandalorian braves high seas and meets unexpected allies."
