THE MANDALORIAN: Ahmed Best Shares Gratitude For Jedi Role; "I Have Always Been And Always Will Be [A Fan]"

Last Wednesday's episode of The Mandalorian blew us all away when Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best made his return to the Star Wars franchise as Jedi Master Kelleran Beq.

Why have we taken out the "Master"? Well, while that was the title the actor's character had in the Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge game show, he's being referred to as simply a "Jedi" by Lucasfilm, suggesting the hero is a Jedi Knight rather than a member of the Jedi Council.

There's clearly plenty of story left to tell about Grogu's saviour, anyway, and Best has now appeared in a social media post (via SFFGazette.com) from the official Star Wars account in which he shares his gratitude with fans.

"Star Wars fans on social media, thank you so much for everybody who ever rocked with me!" the actor says in the video below. "I am more of a fan than I am a person in these movies, and I have always been and always will be."

"I get just as excited when every new Star Wars thing drops," Best continued. "When people show up on stage at Celebration, and I'm more of a Star Wars news junkie than anything else, so I'm right there with you, thank you! And let's keep loving this thing."

As two of the only survivors of Order 66, Beq and Grogu would have been forced to go into hiding. However, we still don't know who helped them escape and something hugely traumatic must have happened for The Child to lose his memories and end up in the hands of the Empire.

For now, that's a tale for another day.

In the meantime, you can see a new still of the Jedi in action below along with Best's message.

I truly don't get all the hate for this guy. Yes, he played jar jar, one of the dumbest/worst SW characters ever.. but he was just acting... not his fault for how it played out. Anyways... love how humble this dude is and how much of SW junkie he is. Hope we get to see his story unfold with him and grogu.

Jar Jar was a character for the kids, and since I was a kid when 1-3 came out. I loved him lol but it's the same neckbeards that complained back then, except they're annoying ass boomers

@bobevanz - these movies are probably some of the earliest examples I can think of where I loved them watching in the theaters. And then some years later am surprised to see the internet hates them (and Jar Jar)

I'll never understand those certain "fans" that cannot separate the fiction from reality when it comes to movies and television.
Kelly Marie Tran would go through similar abuse from these people because they hated the Rose Tico character.
Jack Gleeson got his share of abuse from GOT fans for his portrayal of Joffrey.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan has shared a couple stories of people harassing him shortly after the Negan stuff happened in The Walking Dead even though he was kind of laughing those off.

I'm sure there are tons more cases out there.

Bottom line is while I never liked Jar Jar, I never once thought of sending insults or threats towards Ahmed, and if I had met him in person, I'd have been asking questions like how it was to work with George Lucas and Liam Neeson and shit like that and how cool it was to be in the Star Wars universe, etc.

Glad Ahmed Best is getting a redemption of sorts. It's such a cool opportunity that Favreau and Filoni have created.

George Lucas was great at getting bad performances out of good actors.

I wonder how different things would have been if Best had played Jar Jar with his own voice and speech patterns, or even better, without being an alien creature at all.

One of my favorite new characters. Well acted and that Saber work! Nice Style!
I'd watch a show around his character.

It'd be so meta if he's taking Grogu to Gungan City as safe haven. Ahmed shouldn't be ashamed of playing Jar Jar just because off asshole "fans". The character should be embraced, not condemned. Come at me.
