THE MANDALORIAN: Hasbro Reportedly Cancels Plans To Release Cara Dune Figures In Wake Of Gina Carano's Firing

Gina Carano has been fired from the Star Wars Universe after a series of controversial social media posts, and it appears Hasbro is now halting plans to release any additional Cara Dune action figures...

Disney and Lucasfilm have cut ties with Gina Carano following her controversial social media posts, and that means no more Cara Dune in The Mandalorian. It also seemingly means no more Cara Dune action figures, as a report from well-respected Star Wars action figure website, Yak Face Forums, points to Hasbro putting the character in Carbonite.

"In light of the recent events surrounding the character of Cara Dune, we’ve received word that the planned reissues of the 6" Black Series and Vintage Collection figures have been cancelled," the site reveals. However, there's some good news for fans of the character because, "Hasbro still intends to release the Retro Collection version as planned."

That's probably because those figures are made and ready to be shipped to stores, and to cancel their release would result in significant losses. It's easy enough to alter plans to reissue previously released action figures, though, and that likely means one of two things.

There's either going to be a shortage of Cara Dune action figures, thereby driving up the price and desirability for collectors, or we'll soon see these collectibles filling up bargain bins for 99 cents each.

In their recent statement about the firing, Lucasfilm said: "Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."

Carano has since responded, and will release her own, independent movie - a far cry from starring in one of the most popular TV shows on the planet.

We're guessing this will be her last action figure too...

Eh. Don't think that should be a big deal but all these companies have their own rules.

@Blergh - @aresww3 - just did a video showing how ray is using charisma as a shield, since he's proven nothing from the actual jl investigation. if you have time watch, like, comment etc. thanks for asking.

@aresww3 - Subbed and liked, I'll watch the video when I get home.

I don't know if that's what he's doing but I can't deny that I'm still iffy on what actually happened to him. Whedon being a monster is now confirmed but if he actually was one to Ray, we'll have to see about that when Ray actually opens up.

Have they already produced them or were they still in development? If they've already been made wouldn't it make more sense just to sell them (unless firing Carano means they can't use her likeness on merch anymore).

Like, I can kind of understand firing her on the basis that the stuff she was saying could negatively impact Star Wars/Disney from a business perspective, but you can hardly erase her from the franchise altogether considering she's already appeared in two seasons of The Mandalorian, you know?

@AC1 - I think they’re trying to fully distance themselves from Gina Carano. It makes sense to lose some $$$ by not releasing it bc releasing the toy would bring more controversy.

In terms of what they’ll do with the character, Im more doen with recasting someone like Lucy Lawless than completely removing Cara Dune.

@AC1 - they could recast or just never mention her again. Either would be harder with toys including her likeness floating around.

@aurorsand146 @Hulkh8liars yeah I guess you both make a fair point, the money they'd lose on those toys would probably be minimal in the grand scheme of what they're doing, they'd recover pretty swiftly.

As for what happens with the character Cara Dune, honestly I could see them just writing her out and/or killing her off (off screen) - in fact, with the introduction of more Mandalorians like Bo Katan in the last season, and the announcement of Rangers of the New Republic (which sounds like it was intended as a Cara Dune led spin-off) it seems like they were gearing up to phase her out of The Mandalorian anyway - the only difference now is she won't be in Rangers.

@Ha1frican - If she behaved the same exact way on social media, except criticized the right instead of the left, would she still have her job? Of course she would. Sit down.

@LilJimmy - if she compared being criticized for being a liberal to being a Jew in Germany in the early 1900’s other liberals would still have the same response, let alone if she worked for Fox News and repeatedly shared controversial liberal ideals not in keeping with her employers public persona which is an even more apt comparison. Sit down.

@Spidey91 - that's actually a pretty great casting choice. Not to recast but introduce a similar new character. Maybe have Lawless be the opposite to Carano and have her play a former trooper

@Hulkh8liars - I would be ok with that. Cara Dune was nowhere near my most liked characters in the show. but I would also be ok with them introducing a replacement, extra points if they make it super obvious like "hi, I'm the new girl, the republic sent me to replace Cara", just to rub it in.

She's so stupid. Imagine wasting all those opportunities she had at Disney. Rangers of the new Republic was her show... She could've had more power and leverage to push her agenda then, regardless if it's right or wrong. She cancelled herself just to 'own the libs'.

@TyrantBossMedia - Words have consequences in a capitalistic society. Disney, a PRIVATE company, decided they didn’t want to be associated with those opinions. How do you not get that?

@TyrantBossMedia - we know Hollywood is leftest/Liberal. We need to be smart as Conservatives. Whingeing about double standards gets us nowhere. She needed to be smarter.
