In the Expanded Universe, Boba Fett managed to escape the Sarlacc Pit by outsmarting the giant monster and blasting himself free with his jetpack. That was all wiped away by Disney scrapping the "Legends" canon, of course, and the bounty hunter's fate has been left a mystery these past few years.
Following last Friday's episode of The Mandalorian, Star Wars fans once again have Fett back in their lives. Of course, the question once again is how did he manage to survive?
At least five years have passed since the events of Return of the Jedi in the Disney+ TV series, and it's clear there's a story there to be told (possibly in a prequel series that's already started shooting). However, as of right now, not even actor Temuera Morrison knows what happened to Boba.
"[No], I don’t," he told The New York Times in a recent interview when asked if he knows how his character survived. "There’s quite a bit of loose ends, and I’m not one of those guys that knows too much about the actual history. The fans of ‘Star Wars,’ they have better knowledge of, What’s happened? How can he still be alive? I thought he was stuck in this place? I can find out more on the internet."
While Morrison couldn't shed much light on that, he did have this to say about how Fett has changed. "When we find Boba, he’s well-worn, and he’s been through a lot. He’s a survivor, and he’s weathered. Now it was time to find out more about what makes Boba tick. Is he more than just a simple man, trying to make his way through the galaxy? Is he tired of all the fighting? Is he tired of all the killing?"
Something tells us we won't have to rely on the internet for the truth about what happened to Boba and, even if Morrison did know, he's not going to spill the beans on Lucasfilm's secrets in an interview!
What are your theories for how Boba Fett survived the Sarlacc Pit?
