THE MANDALORIAN Star Giancarlo Esposito Teases A Moff Gideon Breakout In Upcoming Season 3

We didn't think Moff Gideon would remain in the custody of the New Republic for long, but actor Giancarlo Esposito has teased his role in The Mandalorian season 3 by suggesting a prison break is imminent.

The sinister Moff Gideon spent the first two seasons of The Mandalorian hunting down Grogu with the might of the Empire's remnants behind him. Along with commanding his own battalion of Stormtroopers, the villain also took charge of a small army of Dark Troopers that could ultimately only be stopped by the returning Luke Skywalker.

We still don't know exactly what Gideon's end goal is, but he appears to have a vested interest in cloning (with Grogu somehow key to his plan). The prevailing theory online is that he's among those tasked with creating a new body for Emperor Palpatine, but what's next after being captured by the New Republic?

"Yes, it’s assumed he is behind bars," actor Giancarlo Esposito responded when Entertainment Tonight (via SFFGazette.com) asked about his season 3 role. "I think we could have an opportunity to see him escape those chains that bind him."

"We want to see a guy who is a mastermind who has an idea for the future that no one else has. And so, we want to know what that is and we want to know if that’s good or bad," he continues. "I keep holding onto this idea that he really wants to save this galaxy. Of course, everyone does. But everyone assumes he just wants to control it. So, let’s find out if that’s true or not."

Resurrecting the Emperor and restoring order to the Galaxy would definitely be the sort of mission someone like Gideon would consider a heroic one, and there have already been hints that he's somehow behind Supreme Leader Snoke's creation. The Star Wars sequels were divisive, but better explaining the emergence of that villain and The First Order's rise to power would be welcomed by fans.

How Gideon escapes is a mystery for now, of course, though there have already been some very interesting rumours about the villain getting a new look (you can check that out here).

The Mandalorian season 3 is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in February 2023.

this is the type of guy the sequel trilogy needed , even if not big bad would have been better than

Phasma
Hux
Ridard E Grant (did we ever get his name?)

@dracula - I think Pryde was his name?

It was just really a waste of both Gleeson and Grant. They easily could've given the role of Pryde to Hux, and Hux' motivations would still be intact (him getting the rains over the fleet instead of Kylo).

Atleast then there was some military dude that served an overarching villain role.

@bkmeijer1 - really what did Pryde even do?

Dont remember him doing anything

Dont even think i realized it was Richard E Grant until the moment he died

Grant should have been live action Thrawne (if they dont use Lars)

@dracula - agreed he should've been Thrawn.

I think all Pryde did was getting tasked by Palpatine to lead the fleet of Star Destroyer planet destroyers. It's not much, but it could've given Hux more to do beside revealing himself as the spy and then getting shot right away.

@dracula - Yup, it's no surprise either, it's Giancarlo. He knows his role in the franchise.

Not surprising. I kinda expect Mando to visit him once or twice when he's behind bars (Silence of the Lambs the style) and at the end of the season he'll escape so he can return in season 4 as the face of the villain-force to all of Mandalore

That Kenobi episode tonight was kinda fire. Don't want to be a jerk and spoil anything for those who haven't seen it, but I liked so much about this episode. Even Reva was kinda redeemed as a character in my eyes. 8.5/10 Maybe a solid 9/10
