A trailer for The Mandalorian season 3 has been released that showcases what's to come in the next few weeks, while Dave Filoni has weighed in on how the series will likely connect to the sequel trilogy.

The Mandalorian takes place shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi, but if this past week proved anything, it's that Jon Favreau is playing fast and loose with the Star Wars timeline!

While the filmmaker is definitely respecting canon, he isn't willing to be tied down to a specific period of time, a wise move to ensure he can tell these stories without being too restricted. The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and upcoming shows like Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew appear to be informing what we saw in the sequels, including Supreme Leader Snoke's creation.

However, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter (via SFFGazette.com), executive producer Dave Filoni said it's possible these shows will outright avoid eventually tying directly into the divisive trilogy.

"That’s a great question, and we talk about many different things," he responded when asked if they've figured out what Grogu was up to during that time. "That’s a question for a bunch of characters by the way, not just Grogu. Where are they during these events?"

"If anything, having made The Clone Wars and weaving a tale so intricately between two movies that were much closer together, I’ve learned that there’s expansive room in this galaxy for us to tell stories and have characters doing things."

"As a kid, when Yoda said, 'When gone am I, the last of the Jedi will you be,' to Luke, I took that very literally. Well, now we know that’s anything but true," Filoni continues. "There are many different people that could wield the force, and maybe Luke is the last Jedi as far as what Yoda would consider a Jedi."

"So we’ll just have to wait and see how the story evolves and what makes sense. But in my experience, there’s definitely a way to weave everything together and make it exciting. It’s possible it would never even have to cross over with what we saw [in the sequel trilogy] if the story has us somewhere else."

With these intriguing remarks comes a new trailer for season 3 of The Mandalorian that offers a better idea of what's to come next week and beyond. We see more of Mandalore, heaps of thrilling action, and more intriguing teases about what the next seven episodes hold in store for us.

Makes sense. The galaxy is a big place, so they probably had business of their own to deal with.

If there's ever a threequel trilogy that has a new Jedi Order, I hope Grogu is on the council.

@bkmeijer1 - is like to see a star wars reset centuries after the Mandolorian, with old Grogu and Newbaccha

@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, it is a big galaxy. But there are also story beats around some of these characters that you would think would involve them in certain things. Like in Mandalorian and Grogu being used as a test subject to gather his midechloreans for Snoke's creation. Or was it to clone Palpatine? But in that instance I suppose they don't really need to follow up on it. They saved Grogu and are now dealing with Mandalorian stuff. So I guess they don't need to tie him back in with that other storyline.

But what about Cal Kestis? We saw Luke beginning to build his new Jedi Order in Mandalorian, which did tie heavily into the sequels. What about Cal? He's basically trying to do the same thing as Luke And rebuild the Jedi Order. That's a very specific story and we'll need to be shown why nothing came of that. I know that's a video game, and not one of these shows. But it's still canon.

@CorndogBurglar - seeing how the creators of the game also want to make a third game, I wouldn't be surprised if that third game will delve into that.

Or maybe it's like Ahsoka, where Cal realizes the Jedi aren't the best possible solution. But either way, I hope it'll be shown

@bkmeijer1 - I would have to think they will. It would be a pretty big plot thread left hanging.

@CorndogBurglar - even if it's not in a game, I can see it be tied up in a comic.

Hopefully we get to see a post-RotJ Jedi Order with Luke, Ahsoka, Cal, Gungi, Grogu, Karr Nuq Sin and Jacen Syndulla one day.

When Yoda told Luke he was the last of the Jedi he was saying that he should pass on what he had learnt. He didn't mean that he was the only person who could ever be a Jedi ever again, he meant the opposite.

@ObserverIO - it's odd that anyone would take it any other way, especially after ' The Last Jedi '

@ObserverIO - Thats true, but he still wasn't the last jedi. Ahsoka was out there somewhere during the original trilogy. There were other Jedi in hiding as well. They didn't all die during Order 66, and the Inquisitors definitely didn't kill them all either.

@CorndogBurglar - Maybe Yoda didn't know about them. I mean you think he'd sense them or something, while on Dagobar, but maybe he was too focused on... I dunno, masturbation probably, that's my head canon.

Maybe creating Jedi that exist during this period is just contradictory to the original vision and intent of Lucas and they should have thought about that and shown some restraint.

Ashoka wasn't technically a Jedi though, so she gets a pass anyway.

They are going to eventually pretend the sequel trilogy never happened.

@LilJimmy - I don't think that's the case. They may move on to a different time frame, like way off into the future. Or exploring more things from the past. But I don't think they'll ignore the sequel trilogy.

The first episode of season 3 was pretty good. The Bo Katan sequence seemed pointless besides her making an appearance. I love that Green Carga is actually a good leader. Not many of those in the Star Wars universe.
