THE MANDALORIAN's First Two Seasons Are Also Coming To SteelBook Blu-ray Later This Year

Yesterday, we learned that WandaVision and Loki will be the first MCU TV shows to receive Blu-ray releases, and we can now confirm that The Mandalorian will follow! Take a first look at both sets here...

If you're a collector of physical media, then streaming titles are likely something you've grown to resent. While some TV shows and movies do receive Blu-ray releases, the majority don't, and that includes Lucasfilm's Star Wars offerings on Disney+.

However, that's finally changed as Disney has now confirmed plans (via SFFGazette.com) for The Mandalorian season 1 and season 2 to hit Collector's Edition 4K UHD and Blu-ray. Those will feature Steelbook packaging, concept art cards, and some never-before-seen bonus features.

We don't currently have a list of special features, but both sets are currently a few months away from being released in stores. However, based on Loki's upcoming home entertainment debut, we can look forward to at least a few new deleted scenes and featurettes.

Star Wars The Mandalorian: The Complete First Season is heading our way on December 12, while Star Wars The Mandalorian: The Complete Second Season arrives the same day.

Similar to the MCU's Disney+ offerings, we don't know if the plan moving forward is for all of Disney+'s Star Wars streaming titles to be released in this manner.

There's been no mention of The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi, for example, and we'd bet the streamer will wait a good 2+ years between streaming debuts and subsequent physical media launches. The Mandalorian season 3 has to be a given down the line, but that may hinge on how well these do.

For some fans, the show's third season was a tad underwhelming; however, it was an important next step for Din Djarin and Grogu, with the stage ultimately set for the duo to get back to weekly adventures which aren't bogged down by the wider Star Wars mythos.

Here's hoping the prequel and original Star Wars trilogies eventually get SteelBook releases as well! For now, check out a closer look at these releases below.

Disney is about to take back the physical media domain, remember when they'd "open the vault" for their classics? Smart af. Also there's a rumor Wal-Mart is buying a physical media company, maybe they're connected hmm

@bobevanz - Disney just announced last month they were discontinuing physical media releases in certain regions of the UK and Russia. This release just proves that Disney is going broke and D+ isn't working. Mandalorian is supposed to be exclusive to D+ and never released on physical media.

Guess consumers will always have to pay for Disney's mistakes.

As a completionist, I wouldn't even waste my money if they haven't even announced the whole series. And the whole "further releases how nge on the success of these" feels predatory to me. Like don't punish the folks who love your products with not getting to complete their set just because your products didn't sell as well as you hoped. I understand the logistics, but it's also a business practice to motivate sales, and unironically it does the exact opposite for me.

Let me put it this way, if this was a train company, and they said they have this AMAZING train you want to ride, the only catch is if they don't pick up enough passengers then they can't ensure you will reach your destination.

Well, I probably won't be investing in a train I can't depend on.

@TheVandalore - dude, this is business.

@MadThanos - I literally said so in my post, dude. What is your point in restating a fact I've already covered? You act like I'm unaware, for what purpose? Or is your reading comprehension that inadequate?

@MadThanos - since you obviously missed the point, let me clarify further.

This is a collectors set. This isn't the only way to watch The Mandalorian, so we acknowledge these DVDs are JUST for collector's... That's the point of these existing.

With that point, it's kinda pointless to buy these if they never release season 3. Season 3 is released. They can and should have made this a 3 season collection, but they are withholding it as a dangling carrot, to incentives sales. Why else would you release a collection that's incomplete?

It's the same predatory business practices that Hollywood and the video game industry have been using for years, withholding goods purposely for business edge.

So, yes... Dude, this is business.

I'm aware....

Baaaaaack to my point about not giving my monetary support to such predatory business practices, especially for a product SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED for collecting.

Is that any clearer, dude?

@TheVandalore - Personally The Mandalorian ended on a good note at Season 2 I might just buy them since I stopped watching Disney + 2 years ago.

lol I'm sorry, I thought perhaps you had something valid to contribute to the conversation. My tits are calm, dude. This is just me giving you an education since your schooling didn't take.

In the future, don't respond and condescend to me if you can't keep up.

We're starting to see the results of Iger new policies about D+

Good. The idea that movies and TVshows are only available through a subscription service is just stupid.

I hope one day David Fincher's Mank will get the same treatment and get a bluray release.

mastakilla39 - 8/22/2023, 1:08 PM
@Usernametaken - But the whole point of exclusivity is why you would get a subscription instead of waiting for a physical. I'm fine as long as its similar to Netflix's model where people have to wait 2 - 5 years for them to outsource the physical media version.

Can't wait for my complete blu ray release of stranger things in 10 - 25 years from now.

@mastakilla39 - I don't have anything to say about when those can be available through other means that just the subscription service.

But it is really stupid to me that they should have only one life.

If you look at movie that comes out in theaters, they also live through VOD, blu rays, cable, TV and subscription catalogues. And that's healthy for the artwork because you have different means and budgets to discover and enjoy it.
