It Sounds Like The VENOM Movie Will Be Based On This Classic Comic Book Storyline

There's been a lot of speculation surrounding what direction Venom is going to take Eddie Brock in and now a new report sheds some light on what we should expect from the upcoming comic book adaptation.

There appear to be a lot of mixed feelings toward Venom. On the one hand, the Spider-Man spinoff is assembling one hell of a cast but on the other, the fact it takes place away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a world which may not include Peter Parker is more than a little infuriating. However, we have some good news today as it appears as if the movie is going to adapt Venom: Lethal Protector.

In that story, Venom has made an agreement with Spider-Man that they'll leave each other alone on the condition that Eddie Brock doesn't commit any crimes. After moving to San Francisco, it's not long before Venom is tracked down by a group of super-powered mercenaries looking to take him down.

According to this new report, Venom will be shot in San Francisco for a period of time and Sony is looking to cast mercenaries for the movie. That's more than likely The Jury, the group from Lethal Protector whose armour is based on stolen Stark designs (which could link Venom to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a very loose way). Taking Venom to California
certainly helps differentiate it from Spider-Man's New York-based adventures and is a good way of paying homage to the source material.

Don't want it if it's not in the MCU

@HappyHater - Doubt the MCU would allow an R-rated monster brain eating venom.

@Highflyer - They would. Feige already said he's not opposed to it. They just haven't had a reason to go R-rated with anything yet.

@Highflyer - Also, the Netflix shows are essentially R-rated.

@Tonic24k - Talk is cheap. Plus Netflix is very different. The movie universe doesn't really cross over.

@HappyHater - Amy Pascal says it is in the MCU. But Feige says it is NOT. I'm assuming, they meant the Sony-Verse does happen in the MCU it's just we will NOT see any of their characters interact like the Marvel TV Shows.

@Highflyer - It is different but it's still the MCU and that's what we're talking about. And I think if it made sense for Marvel Studios to focus on an R-rated movie they would. Talk is cheap, sure, but Feige and the gang are make-it-happen type of people. Not having an R-rated movie at this juncture doesn't mean they wouldn't "allow" it; it means they haven't needed to yet. Venom could and should be their first. Buuuut Sony and them worked out a deal that is permitting this to happen. Which is wack.
