POLL: Do You Want To See A VENOM Movie?

Sounds like a strange question. After all, the more CBMs the better right? But the news that Josh Trank may helm the Spider-Man spin-off was met with a decidedly mixed reaction. Click to give your take..

Last night we heard reports that Chronicle director Josh Trank was in talks to take the reigns of Sony's long gestating Venom movie. In case you aren't aware of the character, Venom is one of Spider-Man's most popular villains. In essence the actual character is an alien symbiote, which has latched on to several different hosts over the years. The first of these being Peter Parker's rival Eddie Brock, who was played by Topher Grace in Sam Raimi's disappointing Spider-Man 3. As popular as Venom is with comic fans, he does seem like an unusual choice for a solo movie outing. For starters, despite playing a heroic role at times he is most definitely a villainous character. Also, outside of his relationship with Spider-Man he doesn't really have much of a back story - an arc that would lend itself to some kind of origin tale. I think most people are just curious as to what type of movie this would be, and what story it would tell. There are also those of the opinion that other characters are far more deserving of some movie love first.

On the other hand, just because this is being made doesn't mean those others won't be too at some stage. I mean can we ever really have too many CBMs? Venom was pretty much wasted in Spider-Man 3, wouldn't it be nice to see the character done justice to? We don't know anything about what Sony are planning. We could see a horror, a thriller, a comedy even! Venom might be the hero/anti-hero. This movie could also tie in with Marc Webb's upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man somehow. Plus if Trank does sign on we at least know that its in good hands. Anyway, one thing is for certain - we could all do with hearing a bit more about it. Until then, cast your vote below..
