Should The Venom Spin-Off Film Be A Reboot?

Ozymandias speaks out and asks the CBM users if they think the spin-off should be a reboot!

Unlike most people I liked Spiderman 3 and I still want Topher Grace to reprise the role in the Venom spin-off. Sure he wasnt the best Venom but I think he did a pretty good job and deserves another chance. Now on to the discussion. We all know that they are making a Venom spinoff film. BUT should it follow Spiderman 3?OR be a reboot?

Well here are the options:

1.Reboot-Ever since I heard about the Deadpool spin-off being a reboot of the character from Wolverine Ive been wondering if they could do the same thing to the Venom movie. Whether they would recast the role or not I dont know but they could start the character over and retell his origin,as well as put Carnage in it. We already know that he will be a anti-hero in the film so he would be defending the innocent instead of being a villain. Now personally I would hate it if it ignored the third Spiderman film but I think this might be the better way to go and reboot the character and make him way better then the last sad attempt. However it could confuse audiences more and create more problems in the script.Now on to the next option.

2.Follow Spiderman 3-As we all know Venom was killed at the end when Spiderman threw a pumpkin bomb into the symbiote. Eddie Brock was also killed. Now this would be even harder to get down because the only thing thats left is a sample of the symbiote that Dr. Conners has BUT they could bring back Venom and maybe even have Spiderman cameo. Sure, he got destroyed but show a small part of the symbiote that was attached to Eddie Brock survived and it somehow grows back into Venom and Eddie Brock is still alive. I know it sounds a little weird but that is a way. Personally I want the spin-off to follow the events of Spiderman 3 as it would kind of make more sense to audiences and fans also but the screenwriters would have to come up with a brilliant idea on how Venom survived.

Well those are the options but now it is time to VOTE!!!

what is the point in a re-boot and at the same time have it nothing to do with spiderman in it

yea lets have a spidey villian have nothing to do with spiderman..even tho the whole look of venom is based on the spidey costume..a re-boot sounds stupid

and for sum strange reason i kinda like eric formen playin brock, he kinda looks like an evil peter parker so in a movie that works i guesse. itz gunna b damn hard 2 explain why eddie brock came back.

I duno i love venom but i feel like a re-boot will make no sense and as it was said before will confuse people who ain die hard comic fans like the rest of us cuz u know those are the people that make up for most of the money made in cinema's

so u can say re-boot that s**t all you like and i just say why? to satisfy the die hard fans...we make up a small fraction my friend..it has 2 kinda make sense

Why reboot? Because:

1. Venom got crapped on in Spider-Man 3, that version should not be brought back.

2. They're going to have to find a damn convincing way to bring him back, and it would most likely be clumsy and convoluted. The whole movie would hinge on what explanation they have.

It's better to ignore the sh*tty version of "Venom" (I say that very loosely, since what we got I don't consider to be Venom) and start their own story without having to worry about finding a good way to bring him back, and keeping the same actor and characterization of Venom as in Spider-Man 3.

They don't have to spend half the film covering the origin you know, the Incredible Hulk proved that.

GUYS @ The point is,,,, it can follow on from SPIDEY 3!!!

VENOM didn't die, get PURNELL as him an he can star out somewhere else, perfect reboot without BS Origin!! : D

Plus add CARNAGE to the mix = Awesome!!

So there really needs to be another VOTE there!

Because they will probably reboot it but it will follow on from SPIDEY 3, but it will be a reboot!

So i aint voting till we get another voting thing lol.

Good going making the main page OZY - in my experience a poll nearly always makes the main page on a slow news day, lol! This is actually a really good discussion though! Heres my take on it...

Spider-Man 3 was an abomination. Venom was rushed in at the last second and wasnt even a little similar to the comic book version of the character and I personally dont consider the movie version to be deserving of being called Venom!

Even if they found a way of taking the death back, Topher Grace was the worst possible choice to play Eddie Brock! He wasnt a great actor to begin with but when he was trying to play evil he just came across as being a little creep that anyone could probably knock out with a punch!

The Venom movie is pointless enough anyway but if they're going to do it I'd rather they actually use another actor and base the character on the one from the comic books!!! I dont know how they'll reboot it but Im sure they'll find a way better than bringing that Topher twerp back who's already had his chance to play Eddie...and [frick]ed it up big time!

I agree with Lee. They can follow on from Spider-Sh*t 3 but have a different story and different characterization of Venom, one that is more animalistic and scary.

They can do a f*cking 5 minute scene about Venom's arrival on earth, it would be fine.

how are they gunna do a re-boot without mentioning spidey? cuz as i said before the whole costume design of venom is based on spideys costume and if they do mention spidey how do they do so without interfering with the movies already made (or destroyed)? and on top of that do so without confusing the general public? we ain die hard fans and smart directors would do well to take that into account thats why they always bend and twist story lines to sit the general public

so if we weigh up the pro's and con's a re-boot makes less sense

I know you all WANT a re-boot...but there needs to be alot more

what makes most sense and probably won b popular buh it makes more sense...have the last remaining piece of the symbiote latch on to scorpion and carry on that way..even im not 100% on that idea buh iz the only way that makes sense from a directors point of view and wont confuse people

LivingWeapon: Venom's had his own series before, it's not a requirement to include Spidey. It really isn't a big deal.

What makes most sense is to reboot because it takes too much time to show how Venom returns, then explain it, then set up the characters, then finally get to the development and actual meat of the story.

Reboot, 5 minute origin scene, out of the way quickly, story ready to be told right there.

Reading LEE's idea of the Venom movie following on from Spider-Man 3 with a new actor I agree that that is probably a better idea because a reboot would be too confusing and I cant imagine too many people want Topher Grace back!

However, I also agree with TYLER that if it followed on from Spider-Man 3 it might not work for all of the reasons he lists!

Surely it would be better to just use the money that this would cost to make an extra Spider-Man movie, lol?

he is a spidey villain and ain people gun say 'oh ain that the bad guy from that spidey film?...oh its a re-boot?..well how does venom have spideys powers and his looks if spidey ain in it?

you dont have to spend to long explaining what happened it could probli take 30 minz max then have another hour and a half of sexi venom on carnage action!!!

a re-boot would confuse and annoy me! and im alreadi a fan! fink about other people...besides i hate re-boots..ok hulk got away with it but no more plz just b smarter and work around it

Once again, they could explain his powers and origin in 10 minutes, it wouldn't be that difficult.

A sequel to Spidey-Sh*t 3 would PISS ME OFF, let alone annoy me. They took a massive dump on Venom, along with just about everything else in that piece of garbage.

I honestly am hard pressed to find something I like about Spidey 3. So many things were done so terribly. I hated Sandman even! Well, I never liked the character to begin with, but they made him so boring in the movie, it was aggravating to watch.

TYLER: Exactly - Sandman was ok until they did the whole Uncle Ben thing! They killed off one of the best characters/actors of the franchise when they [frick]ed up Harry Osborn (I mean, who the hell chose that suit/glider - i was so psyched to see him become the Goblin after the end of Spider-Man 2!) and the ending was just appalling!
