We're expecting updated numbers later today, but there's good news for Venom: Let There Be Carnage following its $11.6 million opening on Thursday evening. Late last night, Deadline noted that the Marvel sequel was looking at a Friday haul of between $27 million - $30 million, putting Andy Serkis' movie on track to hit $65 million - $70 million over the weekend.
Rival studios believe it could go even higher, and positive word of mouth has led to increased ticket sales.
Interestingly, the trade adds that Sony Pictures is sticking with the theatrical window for Venom: Let There Be Carnage and is likely to keep it in theaters for more than 45 days (so, if you're banking on an early Digital release, then expect to wait a while before you can watch the movie at home).
As for Rotten Tomatoes, reviews are still coming in, but the sequel is on the cusp of a "Fresh" rating at a "Rotten" 59%. 60% - which is what Venom: Let There Be Carnage was sitting on a few hours ago - is what's needed for that "Fresh" score, but it would have to rise to 75% to be "Certified Fresh." The Audience Score is now at 86%, so fans clearly liked it more than critics!
