It's about time indeed! It's been twelve years since the mainline installment, fur pete's sake!
Anyways, with the Summer Games Fest continuing, well, all summer, there are a lot of games that are getting announced & revealed from various publishers & developers. One of the games that have been highly anticipated was a brand-new Crash title. Unfortunately the titular orange marsupial was a no-show at the PS5 event, but that's because many third-party titles were pulled out of the event at the last minute. BUT, just yesterday, the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee showed listings for "Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time". It was discovered by Gematsu, who then tweeted about it, leading to Crash 4 trending on Twitter. It was even trending over The Last of Us Part II for a while!
It's interesting how they're marketing this as a continuation of Crash Bandicoot: Warped, considering that a fourth game already exists in the vein of Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex. Maybe there's more to this that we don't yet know? It'd surely be a shame for all the post-Naughty Dog games to be retconned after they were brought back in Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled. The designs of the characters also share the same look as the leaked merchandise that was shown a week ago.
Here's what the description of the game entails:
"Crash is relaxing and exploring his island in his time, 1998, when he finds a mysterious mask hidden away in a cave, Lani-Loli. The mask is one of the Quantum Masks and apparently knows Aku-Aku, Crash’s mask friend! With the Quantum Masks returning and a Quantum Rift appearing near our heroes, they decide to bravely head through to different times and dimensions to stop whoever is responsible."
It shows that Spyro: Reignited Trilogy developers Toys For Bob are the developers, & surprisingly, not Vicarious Visions of Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy fame (Though they could be assisting). Only PS4, Xbox One, & Series X versions have been confirmed for now, but a PS5 version will likely be coming soon as well. No sign of a Nintendo Switch version at the moment, either.
Expect an official announcement trailer Monday morning at 11, along with gameplay footage.
