Les Wisman ,director of Underworld, is wanting out of the director's chair for the Gears of War movie. It is unknown at this time of why he is dropping the project but speculation is it's due to big budget cuts.

The movie is based on the Xbox 360 hit video game about a group of soldiers who are trying to fight off the Locust horde and save what little mankind has left. It was planning on being an epic origin story but the cut backs are turning it into more of a generic action/horror invasion flick acording to reports.

So now the question becomes can New Line, developers of the Gears of War movie, find someone to fill the directors chair? Or better yet, with the budget cuts do we even want them to?

I'm all for a big epic Gears movie but I dont want to see some watered down low cost version. We have had enough bad video game/comic book movies already.

I agree. I really want to see a live action version of this movie but it has to be done right. The way it sounds now it might as well be a direct to video release.

This is why video game adaptations fail. Studios are afraid to put money into them. Prince of Persia will (hopefully) show that video games can make great movies. Wiseman is making a "wise" (get it? HA!) choice.

I'm so [frick]ing pissed! Mother [frick]ers. If they kept the budget to 80 million, they could get that back it's [frick]ing Gears of War for crying out loud. Just like Halo, if they made a high budget Halo film, they'd make at least twice that since it's Halo and everybody would see a Halo movie, regardless if you like Halo these days or not. The budget was at 100 million for GoW, so I wonder what it is now that they cut it... if it's only like 50 million then it's going to suffer, this isn't a Saw movie with a low budget, this has epic war events, major CGI, and awesome costumes/sets/props. It has to be at least a 80 million dollar budget with all that stuff. You can't leave out anything or it'd make no sense.
