It's been nearly a year since the last Marvel Cinematic Universe outing, as Spider-Man: Far From Home released in July. While Black Widow was initially set to hit theaters two weeks ago, it has been pushed back to November for obvious reasons.
Luckily for fans looking to scratch their Natasha itch, there is plenty of promotional material floating around in the meantime. One example is this month's addition of Black Widow (Deadly Origin) to Kabam Games' mobile brawler, MARVEL Contest of Champions.
We had the opportunity to chat with John Phillipson, the Balance Designer for Kabam Games, and we learned a lot about the new character that launched today, including the differences between the Deadly Origin Black Widow and the previous version that already existed in the game.
Find out what he had to say below!
Joe: Black Widow releases this month. Can you share any information about her in your own words?
John Phillipson: I’m super excited for Black Widow to premiere in The Contest. I’ve spent a ton of time playing with her and I’m excited to see our players take her out for a spin. Not much is more satisfying in our game than hitting the opponent countless times and never letting them use an ability with Black Widow.
Joe: What would you say sets Black Widow apart from other characters in Marvel Contest of Champions?
John Phillipson: Black Widow has her new “Widows Insight” mechanic which I’ve found to be an amazing tool for letting me know when my windows of opportunity are open to attack and punish the opponent.
Joe: This is the second Black Widow to be added to the game - what separates these two characters from one another?
John Phillipson: We’ve actually tied a lot of the new Black Widow to the old. You’re still going to be lowering the ability accuracy of the opponent and landing a ton of critical hits, but now you can pair those along with shock debuffs on nearly every hit, a more reliable evade, as well as some massive burst damage.
Joe: The new version of Black Widow has a lot more team bonuses than the old one. What is the process of choosing which teammates get bonuses from one another?
John Phillipson: We always want to make sure we’ve tied our new characters to representatives they are known for pairing up with or interacting with in the movies and comics so that’s almost always the first place we’ll look. We also use synergies as a chance to help out some of our older characters who may have fallen behind in power to catch up to the current level.
Joe: Is there anything else you would like us to share with fans?
John Phillipson: Black Widow has got an amazing new synergy with Taskmaster, give that a try!
