Can it be true? can we have finally seen the end of appalling video games based loosely on movie scripts based loosely on comic books?

Ira Rubenstein, Marvel Executive VP of Global Digital Media Group has said Marvel won't be adding to their number any more saying....

"We are not doing movie-based games anymore. Actually, wait... we are not doing crappy movie-based games anymore. You can quote me on that."

Excellent news but I guess we'll have to wait and see, first up will be the Iron Man 2 game already in development.

i think it depends on what rubenstein defines as "crappy."
his level of crap may not reach out level of crap.
what to him is a good game?

I atually thought the X-Men Origins:Wolverine game(PS3) was much better than the movie.Game = Blood & dismemberment :)- Movie = none. Game had a better storyline.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was an amazing game. Part of the reason being that they started making it BEFORE the movie was even announced.

how are they going to stop making crappy movie game tie ins?

I mean, I would presume that most people involved in making games think their game will be quite good (some people are that deluded)- you won't know if it's crappy until after it's released.

Terrible news. I like game movie tie-ins. I loved Wolverine, Hulk(2003 videogame sequel) and the Spider-Man Trilogy(I wish SM3 would have the same quality just like SM2 instead of having the story levels mixed up). I say continue it test them first and listen to the fans to make sure you get them right.

Wolverine game was cool because they listened to the fans.

ya there have been some pretty good movie games, spider-man 2, hulk and x-men origins wolverine were really good. although id like to see a stop to games like iron man and superman returns

I'll believe this when I see it. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was exceptional though repetitive. Bottom line is this, as long as studios rush the production of games to be simutaneously released with film releases we will always get rushed crappy games.

@redskullrevenge ultimate alliance wasn't a movie tie in

I agree there have been a few good ones, i loved spiderman 2. but on the whole they are mostly forgettable lets hope that now someone from marvel has said it they take control of the games like they have their films.

how about video games based on comic books?!?! yes the actual SOURCE MATERIAL. its dumb to base a game based on a movie thats based on a comic. just cut out the middle and base the games from the book! ULTIMATE SPIDERMAN was awesome because it was almost panel for panel from the book and im expecting ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 2 to be pretty good just because the story of the marvel civil war is a great story.

The only impressive ones were spiderman 2 and wolverine..... I prefer marvel making games with there own plots though, like Hulk Ultimate Distruction, or web of shadows.... So I guess this is good news...

um...xmen origins was only good when compared to OTHER MOVIE GAMES. anyone that thinks that game has the same quality as gears of war, lost planet, resident evil 4 and 5, mass effect (god the list can go on and on) is just not paying attention, and must be hypnotized by the fact that its just a bloody wolverine game. it had all kinds of bugs and glitches in it...not many unlockables...and it got very monotonous.

It was just a clone of the God of War series. Wasn't that great.
