MARVEL'S AVENGERS Celebrates THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER With The Arrival of Jane Foster's The Mighty Thor

Jane Foster's The Mighty Thor is the newest playable character in Crystal Dynamics' action-RPG Marvel's Avengers. While not linked to the MCU, the game is clearly celebrating Thor: Love and Thunder.

Crystal Dynamics' Marvel's Avengers may not be tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the timing of their content always seems to sync up with something big going on. Today, we've got the release of Jane Foster's The Mighty Thor as a playable character. With Thor: Love and Thunder hitting theaters on July 8, her arrival couldn't be more perfectly timed.

Jane Foster's transformation into the Goddess of Thudner originates from the comics written by Jason Aaron. She first appeared as the character in issue #1 of 2014's Mighty Thor. As the story goes, when Thor Odinson becomes unworthy to wield Mjolnir, it sits dormant on the moon. Although many try (and fail) to pick up the legendary hammer, it is Jane, who is battling cancer, who hears Mjolnir calling out to her.

Upon wielding the weapon, she transforms into the Mighty Thor which continued in 2015's Mighty Thor Series and 2019's War of the Realms. At the conslusion of her arc, she transcends mortality and is reborn as Valkyrie.

But like all the other heroes in Marvel's Avengers, Crystal Dynamics has come up with their own lore for The Mighty Thor.

In Marvel’s Avengers, Jane – the Mighty Thor – is torn from an alternate timeline through a rift in space-time caused by Tachyon Anomalies. In her original timeline, Jane became the Goddess of Thunder when she took up the mantle from Thor, who in his grief gave up Mjolnir after the A-Day tragedy and Jane's cancer diagnosis.

Jane Foster will be voiced by Zehra Fazel in Marvel's Avengers. The talented voice actor is known for her work across video games (Apex LegendsBorderlands 3Destiny 2) and television (She-Ra and the Princess of PowerBig Hero 6: The SeriesLost in Space).

It doesn't sound like Jane Foster will be getting her own custom campaign in Marvel's Avengers. However, players can learn more about her by collecting intel documents and through character banter in the game. There's also the animatic, Marvel's Avengers - The Mighty Thor: Out of Time, illustrated by veteran Marvel artist Takeshi Miyazawa, that shares more of Mighty Thor's story.

Check it out below.

As far as how she plays, Jane's Mighty Thor possesses all the strength and power of a God of Thunder. Her abilities and playstyle are inspired by how Jane fights in the comics, specifically with more finesse with Mjolnir than the Odinson. Her style, including her in-game Outfits, are also inspired by the comics. Once Jane Foster's The Mighty Thor arrives today, players can complete her specific mission chain and Hero Challenge Card to earn special rewards, including exclusive cosmetics and intel documents that delve deeper into Jane's story.

The Mighty Thor will be playable completely for free following today's 2.5 Patch update. Following this update, Crystal Dynamics has plans to add to the game's story with  two new challenges "as part of an ambition to advance our narrative through hero and villain-centric content."

Ehhh…. There’s no nee story with her and she’s literally just Thor with some Captain America moves. Not enough to bring me back to the game

I completely forgot about this game. Guess releasing a new character with each new MCU project is a good enough way to stay relevant. Just wish it had story missions instead of some collectibles that tell a story of sorts

This game was such a disappointment.

That headline had me very confused. Didn't know this game was even a thing anymore.

This could have been a great game. Still playing it here and there but they really dropped the ball.

@TheBlueMorpho - Agreed. Had the potential. Launched with too many bugs, the gameplay was good but not great, and the monotony made it uninteresting after so long.

I would've loved a Doctor Strange release to coincide with the movie. But looks like their budget is limited to reskins.

If she had a story I'd play in a heart beat without that eh

@MyCoolYoung - If it were financially viable for them they could make this game relevant again. I don't see that happening. But for instance, if they dropped Doctor Strange as a playable character (possibly Scarlet Witch as well) to coincide with the movie AND gave us a full expansion pack with it, it could work. New stages, new story, new enemies, etc. But it seems the only thing worth allocating resources to is just enough dev work to push out reskins.

@Tonic24k - exactly which is why I don't revisit it. I'm guessing they taking the L and doing the bare minimum which sucks. There was aspects of the game I enjoyed

Anything to make us care about that dumb game.

I wonder why they didn't use any synergy with the movies until now. CD and Square Enix knew the release slate of the MCU and coulde have perfectly made it work

- Shang-Chi with the release of Shang-Chi
- Scarlet Witch with WandaVision
- Falcon with FatWS
- a Loki villain event with the release of Loki
- Hawkeye with Hawkeye
- Spider-Man with No Way Home
- Doctor Strange with MOM

Yea, after the completed the main Black Panther story expansion last year, I haven't really touched it since. Lol.

What sucks about this game is the fact they're pushing "legacy" characters. It's a lazy effort. Why not give people Ant-Man, Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Captain Marvel.

Game started as failure as soon as they wanted to make Ms Marvel the main focus of the game. LOL. Dumbasses.

I haven't played this game in about a year. I downloaded the Wakanda level, fought Crossbones and never played it again. So much wasted potential.

@IronMan616 - Ms Marvel being the focus is the last reason this game failed.

@MarDCel - That's why I said making her the main focus was the start of many failures.

I had fun with the game, but yeah it got repetitive quick.
Plus the weird decisions of expansion characters.
I get that Panther was delayed a touch because it was still close to Chadwicks death and they didn't want to look like they were exploiting that so instead they put both archer characters back to back. No offense to the Kate Bishop character, but should that really be your first expansion character?
People have been clamoring for Wanda, Vision and Cap Marvel and Doctor Strange since the beginning and still zilch.
And now we finally get someone new, and it's a second Thor instead.
